That's what every concerned American should do - tell their representatives in Congress "no". Legislation like this speeds things along a path that will see our freedom and rights dwindle to nothing in the name of "security." As I've asserted before, I know the average American wouldn't approve of this...

Seriously, you have to draw a line somewhere, and spying on all your citizens in the name of national security is definitely crossing it in my books.

Frighteningly familiar. Hitler started this way. First restrictions on political freedoms and the rights of Jews. Then came the Gestapo to enforce the terror. John Ashcroft may lack the mustache (although the haircut is close). But he doesn't appear to lack the instincts. Fascism to enforce life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Breathtaking logic - even for a lawyer.

I'm going to throw a real wrench into things here. Then I'm going to go away
Personally? I'd rather see measures taken to discover and eliminate terrorists, than see my family blown to pieces by terrorists, or die a slow and agonizing death because of poisoning in th water or whatever. IMO, we are living in a different time and conducting a very different kind of warfare; and it requires different measures that not everyone's going to like. As far as I'm concerned, the government can go ahead and invade my privacy if it means I keep my loved ones around. "Rights" aren't worth losing that.
