I'm just wondering if you guys know of any good screensaver sites out there. I'm looking specifically for screensavers that don't contain any kind of malaware, for which this type of 'freeware' tends to be notorious..

Cheers!

LMAO! That might be worth checking out!

I'm pretty flexible actually. Right now I'm running some cool, futuristic space/fantasy images, but I also like nature scenes, art (most genres)... and ... satire would be great too

I remember Dazzle being an excellent freeware screensaver without malware, but it's never been optimized for WinXP. You can find it here.

I personally use a piece of software called gPhotoShow which allows me to create a slideshow, by selecting pictures, or folders, and use it as my screensaver. Currently i'm usiong that with a selection of wallpapers from digitalblashpemy.com

I have a Worms Armageddon screensaver that's quite good. I don't know how many other people like 'Worms' out there, but it simulates a new battle each time it runs. It has about 10 landscapes to choose from.
Unfortunately I don't think it's available on the Net . Though I suppose if you looked hard enough, it could be found.

I've had good success with free screensavers from this site.

I use pictures I have on my system as my screen saver. Erm, not suggested for minors.

I don't like most screen savers, I torn apart some of the files for morrowind and did a screen saver with that last year, but it's on my old broken hard drive and no way I'm going through that again. It was neat though.

I'd rather take the time to make one out of pictures that mean something to me, than just a random animation you know? I just ended up making a "screensaver folder", with various folders of pictures and I cut and paste the folders from the "My Picture" folder and use that as my screen saver.

I tend to prefer abstract kaleidoscope designs in screensavers--either that, or goldfish. Several years ago there were a pair of excellent screensaver collections: Intermission, and AfterDark. Intermission was never upgraded for Win98, and Berkeley Systems (who developed AfterDark) was purchased and subsequently killed by Electronic Arts. Who can foret AfterDark's flying toasters? Too bad the company didn't last.

I had a collection of gorgeous painting's a friend of mine did on my last hard drive that got fried. THAT was my favorite screen saver. She took picture's, scanned them and I used those as my screen saver. Wonderful work to look at.

I vaguely remember AfterDark. That was good.
Didn't know anyone else had it though.

Flying toasters and cityscapes at night, right?

Right. Berkeley Systems made the stuff, but then sold their souls (like so many other companies) to Electronic Arts in exchange for funding on an RTS they wanted to make. I saw it in pre-alpha, and it frankly looked pretty bad. EA not only pulled the plug on the funding, but fired everybody at Berkeley Systems, instead of easing them back into doing what they did so well.

Gotta love EA.

So Berkeley's talent was for screensavers. That's quite pathetic really. What a sad story .

They also did a fine application that substituted a series of new desktops views with imbedded, customizable programs. Several of the desktops were suitable to kids, with passwords. It was all done very well, but EA didn't put a dime into its marketing, so the thing crashed and burned.
