| | | Ukraine A few days ago Ukraine held elections wich were widely belived to be rigged, at leaset there were countless irregularities. The situation is very tense as opposition leader Yushchenko have called for a general strike, and both candidates have sworn the presidential oath. Latest development is the result have been apealed to the supreme court. The apeal will be examined on monday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4042979.stm
So, what do you think will happen? Will there be another election? Or is this the beginning of a civil war?

| | Not taking sides, but if Yushchenko presses I wouldn't put civil war out of the question. I would hope for another election though.
Somewhat on topic... I saw a picture of Yushchenko before his "Unexplained" attack and cannot believe it was fish, looks more like nuclear fall reaction.

Some weeks of riots and demonstrations, then: "Shut up, or face the consequences." Oh, and this is not uneducated banana republic hicks, just to make that clear. Both Putin and the EU has already put their foot down.

The Ukrainian Highest Tribunal has decided to consider Juszczenko's protest...the results have not yet been published, so there is still hope.
Moreover, Polish and Lithuanian Presidents were invited to take part in negotiations. Polish President - Aleksander Kwaśniewski comes to Ukraine on 26. Nov...
There is always hope...

There is always hope... | So why do you want Yushchenko to win?

| | | Well, first of all it was not him who most probably cheated.
Furthemore I think Juszczenko could make some changes Ukraine needs(e.g. fighting corruption, creating more democratic system...).
And most important - as far as I know(though I could be wrong...) the Ukrainian Nation wants him to win.

| | | there wasn't any real cheating going on, people were just "coerced" into voting one way or another. but either way there won't be a civil war, other european countries, not to mention the UN won't sanction it. If any sort of split happens(with some going over back to the "good old" Soviet days) then it will be entirely political rather than any sort of discernable aggression

I know you meant the above sarcastically, but this all bears noting.
