I recently downloaded the demo for this game and I must say it is quite fun, even for a person like me who is not too into strategy games. For those of you who don't know what it is, the game is one where you are put into power in a tropical island. You attempt to build a city up from simple farming, to mass tourism. Each citizen has their own individual thoughts, happiness standings, and more. I managed to finish the demo (50 yrs. of power), but by the end, I was surviving off US funding and supporting a Mardi Gras to keep the people happy (I forgot to have teamsters for my factories, plus the stupid environmentalists had me planting thousands of trees instead of making houses). For whoever has played Tropico, what did you think of it?

I found the original Tropico got very old, very quickly, with groups demanding and setting the exact order in which you built things, all the time. I also didn't think much of the game's vaunted "atmosphere," which consisted of good Carribean tunes and palm tree sprites on a typical building sim engine.
On the other hand, I'm really enjoying Tropico 2, which I recently purchased. Same interface, but the game's much sillier, with you building up a piratical island by raiding European coloniesl, stealing gold, and using captives to erect buildings.

I have the demo of the second one around here. You start on an exotic island and the cut scenes protray you as a sort of comical Fidel Castro character. Looked nice but I never got around to actually spending some quality time addressing the objectives.

The second game assigns you the name of "Pirate King" (which you can customize as you like), and supposedly takes place in the 17th century.

I thought tropico was enjoyable a rather short time, but the citizens minds arent complex enough imo. For example there is no motivation for people to study other than money. Damn biased capitalist game.
Have not tried Tropico 2, but it does sound worth a try, even though I usally dont like sim type games.

Collecting dust somewhere no doubt

I have the original and it's expansion, and I loved it. It's the only game I bought solely by looking at the box.
I want to get Tropico 2, but I have the suckiest computor on the face of the earth, so I doubt it will work. Anyone have the Requierments?

Requirements; let's see...
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
Pentium 3 500 MHz or AMD Athlon
64 MB RAM
16 MB video card
Not too bad, really. I noted some real slowing down when zooming out greatly over a large, active colony, but I almost never pull back that far, anyway.
