I felt like starting this thread because I feel not enough people KNOW about the Total War games.

First in the series was the acclaimed "Total War: Shogun" which is a strategy game based in ancient Japan. You lead an army in which your task is total control of Japan. (then there was an addon known as the Mongol Invasion)

The second is (and the greatest so far) Medieval: Total War. This game is by far one of the best games ever made... Rather than bore you with my feelings I will link to you

Gamespys Strategy Game of the Year 2002

I advise all to check it out because soon the expansion pack "Viking Invasion"

Check this out now! Vikings! Oh Crap!

And what they are working on now has given me a stiffy that not even denise richards could challenge...

Total War: Rome

Check out that movie now!

I love Shogun, as a matter of fact, I have been playing it the past couple days. I haven't gotten around to Medievil yet,, but I am currently swaying between it and Morrowind.

BS I have very important words for you. Get it. The battles themselves are 100 times better. Sure you loose the awsome movies (assassins, Geysha's) of Shogun but in return you get a game 100 times more in detail.

How's diplomacy with the AI? Two of the things I've liked best about Europa Universalis II are recognition of casus belli (which penalizes a nation's morale heavily if you haven't got a good reason to go to war) and the ability for specific nations to form group alliances, with individual members able to make a separate peace with enemies.

Go away fable.

actually the game relates more around WAR. Diplomacy has a good deal with the game..

Who you wed your princesses to... Who you ally with... who you attack.

If you attack christians the pope calls a crusade against you, if your a Muslim you basically have to already go to war with all the Popes men... it has a lot of Diplomacy but its more along the lines of diplomacy for preparing for battle... you cant really win on Diplomacy etc.

Oh, so it's more like recent American diplomacy?

I found the units in Shogun hard to control. They reacted kinda slow (althought this might be realistic) , has that improved with Medieval?

And the different kind of tactics? In shogun there were 1 or 2 tactics that led you to victory every time. Well most of the times...

I actually preferred the first one (plus the expansion, which is a must), the battles were much more readily available and a lot less time was spent with the often awkward turn based element. I think Medieval was trying to hard to be Civilization like...still love it though.

BTW, play as an Islamic country, it is so much easier, plus Ghulam body guards kick ass and are easy to get.
