The Two Towers: LotR: Breadbox Edition

With the coming release of Return of the King, a friend of mine showed me this. I thought it was too much.

Too loquacious. It can be summarized much more quickly than that:

FRODO: Hey, I got this cool ring that makes me invisible.

GANDALF: It will also steal your brains, and you're cursed with it.

FRODO: I'll go destroy it!

SAURON: No you won't!

FRODO: Yes I will! (He does.)

THE END.

Yeah, but where's the humour in that?

But you're wrong: Frodo "Nine Fingers" Baggins does NOT destroy the Ring.

In the abridged, Fablian(tm) version, he does. Costs less to put Gollum on marketing.

Seems that way, sometimes. I was truly disgusted with the way Dr. Seuss' wife turned his policy of no commercialization on its head after his death, because all that wonderful, whimsical stuff suddenly became soulless merchandising tools. At least Tolkien's family has held out for what they feel will best represent the old man's vision. Though I strongly suspect, based on actions during his life, that Tolkien would never have allowed anything to be made from his books. He was a pastoralist and Luddite who insisted on writing every page in longhand with a pen, and he loathed all the "modernity" of civilization.
