Talking The Posh Virgin

Okay, I don't know if the lot of you have followed this but..... The Vatican (some god bless them) has officially banned the new Madame Tussaud's wax cabinet display of Brit soccer hero David Beckham and his wife posing as Josef and Mary.

http://cache.aftenposten.no/multimed...id_243207h.jpg

Juicing the whole thing up is some absolutely fan-to-fox sculptures of Samuel Jackson, George.W The Sockpuppet and Hugh Grant leaning over the crib in Betlehem, and Kylie.... yes Kylie, as an angel watching the proceedings.

So, the question is: Should anyone feel insulted by this?

Discuss.

lmao! I heard about this on the news this morning

Should anyone feel insulted... I'm not sure.
I don't, but I'm not Catholic. My own attitude is that The Vatican needs to just relax a little across the board....

Further, not to steer things too far off course here... but IMO this sort of outrage over something so trivial coming from an organization unwilling to discipline priests for the sexual abuse of children is just a little bit galling....

LOL I think it's amusing and it's also typically British humour

If anyone feel insulted by this I really think it's their problem, and I totally agree with DW that the Vatican needs to relax a bit and realise they don't gain any power (at least not in Europe) by acting ridiculously out of touch.

Does anyone have the whole picture? The fact that Sam L Jackson is depicted as one of the shepherds hilarious (But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd.). Blair, Bush and Chirac taking the roles of the three kings is no less funny.

If no one has posted the whole thing by the time I'm back home, I'll try to dig it up myself.

I heard on public radio today that the real reason the Vatican is upset is that there is no Jesus in the scene.

Personally, I think the reason The Vatican hierarchy has increasingly little relevance for more and more people is precisely owing to instances like this. They cling to an archaic and unbending world view that does not allow for the evolution of new ideas and changing social mores, and they take themselves far too seriously. Not that the Catholic Church is alone in this regard, many other faiths are much the same...

This is also why, conversely, I think we have seen a growth of "New Age," religions over the last several decades. Many people, seeking a spiritual path, will naturally gravitate towards a belief system that reflects their own values and the concerns of the era in which they live. Thus, when more mainstream religions do not modernise, their following tends to decline. Though, admittedly, my perception may be a bit scewed since I live on the West Coast where "New Age," notions of varying stripes tend to be the norm rather than the exception.. It is possible that if I lived in a far more socially conservative area my outlook would be different.

@DW you mean the Left Coast as I like to call it.
I agree pretty much, but I think that the current Pope has done a better job than many of the past ones at modernization. After all he stated that he accepts evolution, the big bacng, and apologized for the inquisition and crusades! Big steps for the church I think.

Ha! I think that's a good look for Posh, though about anything is a good look for her.. I seriously doubt she qualifies for that role though if you catch my drift.. Who is the angel in the background?

Edit: Sorry, just realized who the beauty with the wings is..

Yes. David Beckham should be posing as Mary.

And what do you expect from the vatacin(i know i spelt it wrong)? They are a bunch of old dudes who read the bible all the time and never got laid in their lives.
