The Inevitable KFC Thread (Spam-Lite)

What with that thread about living conditions for animals it was only a matter of time before someone started this.

What's your view on KFC? Tasty food or chicken torturers?

Share your thoughts.

I have removed the attachment. Damuna Nova, such logo is unacceptable. - Maharlika -

Ugh... greasy, oversalted lumps of God only knows what... *shudder*

More to the point, I am strongly opposed to factory farming and the cruelty it engenders. KFC is amongst the worst of offenders.

I don't think it is ethically wrong to consume meat, however. As long as it is free range or hunted.

Personally, I couldn't care less where my meat comes from, as long as I know it is actually meat. And if I don't know it's meat, I don't care as long as it tastes good and doesn't kill me.

Why do I think this way? I am just that nihilistic. Ultimately, does it matter if the animals suffer before getting their heads chopped off? If they're dead, they're dead. They taste the same, in my opinion.

That aside, given the choice between KFC and "proper" meat, I'll choose the "proper" meat any time. Unless I'm too poor for it...

So do you have the same thoughts on the death penalty perhaps? That if someone is going to die, who cares how painful it is?

And a current affairs program in Australia did some documentary on how our cows are treated in Egypt, it is extremely barbaric and cruel. This is what happens:
Quote:
RICHARD CARLETON: And then the barbarous process begins. Stabbing the cattle in the eye, at this stage, is either to disorient the beast, or it's just gratuitous cruelty. Next, the tendons in the back legs are slashed so that the beast can't run away. Then, in that crippled state, the beast is led to the slaughter. Can't show you a lot of that footage. It really is just too upsetting, but the anatomy of a cow or a steer's leg is not that different to yours or mine. I mean, muscle is connected by tendon to heel, and the foot works. Now, on this steer, if I was to slash through there, the hoof, he just wouldn't have any control over it. Just explain to me, what is this? The authorities wouldn't allow us inside Bassatin, but we did get into a smaller abattoir between Cairo and Suez. To control the animal? Clearly this beast has had its tendon cut. I didn't see it happen, but there was little embarrassment amongst the staff.

I ate my own pet Chicken when I was six.

My Dad tried to cut it's head off with a hatchet, but the chicken proved to much for him and he had to strangle it. I still find it funny that he got his butt kicked by a chicken.

So, I only have this word of warning to post,

The future, (Special Thanks to Vicsun)

@DJV, I forgot to mention that it depends on if it is profitable or not... I didn't mean to say that torturing someone who is about to die is just fine and dandy.

And about the cow thing... that's just stupid.

Yeah, I know you weren't as blood thirsty as that, but it came across in your post as that. I just thought people might like to read about the cows though, because it was very much an eye-opening report.

Not sure where I stand on the free-range vs. cooped hens laying eggs debate though.

If egyptians would really do that, they'd be pretty stupid. Meat of animals who die in fear tastes awful and is very tough. The best ways to slaughter animals are an electroshock or a quick slashing of the throat, after the animal has been rendered insensible. There's no reason why anyone would do it otherwise: it's a lot less cruel, and the meat is of much better quality.

I would prefer less cruelty. I also prefer supporting small farmers since I come from an ag state. I still eat it though. I like it and I'm that selfish. Plus I don't care enough about it to be an activist and just not eating it doesn't really hurt anyone's pocket book.

I don't so much mind big efficiency farming and whatnot, but those clucks have things pretty bad.

I don't like free range chicken. It tastes funny to me and doesn't have enough sodium solution in it to be properly fluffy and tender. At least the stuff they sell at whole foods anyway(mark your calenders folks who know me, I just admitted to having bought something at whole foods... I don't even like to support Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. )

My real preference if I were back home in Iowa? Buy a dozen frozen roasting chickens from the locker. They get them from farmers in my county. It's cheaper and more humane. The money goes right back in the local economy. I'm in hell though so I'm stuch with Tyson from the supermarket or KFC. Popeyes is nice too though. Anyone know where they get their meat?

Always a pleasure!

In other KFC news, they brought back "Hot and Spicy" down here in Aus recently. I have to admit that spiced chicken is a weakness of mine, so I went and got some and enjoyed it while watching some TV. It was delicious!! Just mind bogglingly awesome...

And then the grease hit.

I seriously felt as thou someone had lubed the inside of my body. It was staggingly awful! I had to go to the local store and get some coke just to burn the quickly setting greasy flavour out of my throat with it's acidic pleasure.

In the end, I really don't care how the chickens live or die, but if they could restrict the amount of Roman Wrestling the chickens did, thus reduce their over all "Greasatuide", that would be just dandy!

The sad part is, it's true, you can see the film.

And yes, I think it is done savagely on purpose, simply for cruel pleasure.

I really kind of doubt that any large corporations do anything to farm animals for cruel pleasure(well, nothing at work anyway). I work for a large corporation and I can tell you unerringly the only thing that matters in the least is money. Cruel pleasure is both innefficient (and thus expensive) and a PR nightmare (and thus more expensive, plus they already have enough of these without adding any just for fun).
