I just glanced up at the UGO advertisements at the top of the page, only to find the words The Hichhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Trailer in the same sentance.

Now I was aware that someone was making a film of the book, but I didn't know they were that far in the progress.

So I clicked on the link, fearful of what I might see, Would it be Incredibly funny? Would it be just strange? Or Would it be a total disaster?

http://www.ugo.com/channels/filmtv/f.../exclusive.asp

I must say, I am looking greatly forward to this film, I have read the books several times an I am a great fan of the story (something people probably can see by looking at my avatar)

I think (and hope) that the movie will be good, and I am relieved by the trailer and the spirit it is made in, the theme works great with this sort of story.

I am definatly going to the movies on april 29th

I've wanted to see a movie of hgttg for the longest time, but lately (after they started filming!) I've been more skeptical... It just seems like an impossible task to capture the dry humor that makes the book so hilarious! I think what makes the book so great is the way Adams uses the full English language with all its sayings, expressions and quirky proverbs. I don't know how that can be translated to film... But Hey! I'll watch it!

The question remains, who should play the parts? Personally I think Natalie Portman would be a good Trillian... & for some reason I keep picturing Fry and Bender from futurama as Ford & Marvin!

EDIT: Oh yeah, nice to see another Bergenser in the forums... Not only same country, but same town! Ka det går i?

Please tell me that the actor playing Arthur is British!!!!! And that at least some of the other cast are as well, an American HGTTG just wouldn't work, no offence but they just wouldn't get the humour the right way.

True, I don't think there's an American Hollywood actor with the skills needed to depict an Englishman with a dire need for tea!

Maybe Hugh Grant??

No Hugh Grant is a big wet girly man who wears womens frilly knickers.
Craig Charles, Robert Llwelynn, maybe even Shaun Ritchie would be good, ah there are just too many to name

Oh, i found something that I didn't like, Marvin was too cute, he should be (as HiRo11er said) more like bender from futurama.

Another guy from Bergen! Now we are at least 3 (although the other one doesn't post that much)

I was going to make this very thread but you beat me to it. It's already been cast and filmed and I must say it looks pretty good so far. I've already seen one movie of it and that was okay. I am looking forward to seeing a sblack Ford. Now that strikes me as odd. Just never pictured it that way. He looks like he fits the part though. Definitely has the "cool" vibe. I like the look of the Vogons.

They've cast Ford as black!? That's brilliant!
I've read the book three times, and I've always pictured Ford as your average Joe Schmoe All-American jock type of guy. Kind of like Fry from Futurama if he wasn't an utter loser. I'm now unsure if they physically describe Ford in the book, but if he's not, it's a brilliant twist!

I'm definitely watching this movie when it comes out! But I wonder how much they'll include... The restaurant? The Krikkit attacks?

It's probably only the first book, more would be too much for a single film

There are two trailers already (and a teaser), I really like the second one. And I'm kinda glad Arthur doesn't look as stupid as I pictured him.

The whale falling down is in it! *celebrates*

I haven't read the book, and have only seen the trailer maybe once. But we have a list of books for Pre-Ap Language Arts next year. Of the entire list of books, we have to read at least two of them. The Hitchicker's Guide to the Galaxy is on the list, so I'm thinking about reading it.

Martin Freeman (aka Tim from The Office) is a pretty good choice, I think. Not really sure about the Ford Prefect casting... reserving judgement on that front, I think.

Anyone else remember the old TV series? I was pretty young when I saw it, but I have fond memories of it.

I saw the old TV show! I quite liked the cow in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe - since I'm also a Doctor Who fan....

My understanding is that Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay before his death. There will be some changes - including a whole new character (so I heard) - but these were implemented by Adams himself. They chose Stephen Fry (Jeeves from Jeeves and Wooster) to be the voice of the Guide itself - fitting because he was a good friend of Adams'.
