Hi all. I've just come out of an assembley on Global Warming. By the sound of it everythings gonna change if we go on the way we are. So my question is would you change your life to save the life of the Earth. For example, would you change your power source? Would you recycle more? So tell me your opinion.

Send a message via MSN to Greg.
Can I choose what my power source is? No therefore I can't choose. The council here provides AWFUL recycling services.

Was the person who took your assembly a whining bald Welsh bloke? Cos he came to our school and I got annoyed with him...

Nope. I'm fine with living the way I am.

I would switch over to Ethanol or Methanol on my Drag Racer, though (and may be, soon). Right now, though, there just arent enough places to get it for Passenger cars. (I can get racing Ethanol - From Corn- and Methanol- From trees-From Bazzell down in Logan.)

I do not own a car, I walk as much as I can

And yes of course I would change it around, and I try to anyway.

Ridiculously though, I am connected to an industry that is one of the env. killers - airplanes - I'm an aeronautics and aerospace engineer. Even during my Uni days we used to have long and involved talks about how to improve engines etc. The thing it comes down to is money, as always. If we had huge funds invested then we could talk about new power sources, it would be terribly difficult. But in the mean time, the EU has all these fancy laws which are actually great - retrofitting factories, plants etc, all in the goal of making as small as possible the impact on the env. New power sources, like wind for example etc. But money, money ... as always. It's hard going.

I don't know how relevant to the thread this is, but a while back I had this idea of building a ring of solar panels to go around the Earth...

*Waits for people to say how costly, stupid, ineffective, time-consuming and dangerous this could be*

I would change my lifestyle if I could but as we are limited to the power sources and methods of transport available in the area where we live we have limited ability to do so. Plus, to actually do any real good we need everyone (or at least the majority of people) to change how they live. I would in theory change how I live but in practice this is actually quite hard to do and I think the only people that can actually do anything significant about the problem are the world leaders as they are the ones that can set up alternative power sources, recycling programs, better public transport so less cars and so on.

I'm getting a hybrid when the lease on my current car is up. Once I do, is it alright for me to think I'm better than everyone who doesn't own a hybrid? Will my self-righteousness be justified? If so, I'll go entirely electric.

Hmm, yeah. However, what I'd be willing to do to better this planet and it's inhabitants would probably piss every single person here off. Well, maybe not Chim.
