The crisis in 2006?

I was just searching the forums and noticed that around 2006 there was some sort of crisis where many got banned. At that time I wasn't looking at SYM forums very much, and maybe that's the reason that it passed me by. .I'm just wondering, what was that all about? I don't want it to return or anything, but its like nobody knows how it started, except the ones involved (atleast I hope).

I don't really know the details but if I recall (and I was just beginning at the time) there was a new rule that if a thread got to a certain length that you could not post more in it and had to start a new one. There were some insanely long spam threads at the time. I think that was a big part of it and I think some people stopped following the forum rules and so they got banned. Then even some of there friends, I believe, were upset that there friends got banned so they also started breaking the rules. I even believe that a few asked to be banned? Thats just my recollection. I didn't really know what was going on. Correct me if I am wrong.

I was wondering the same thing actually. And I also noticed in one thread, I'm not quite sure which one, it had lots of banned people in it. I never went in there to post though. EDIT: It was the one about cursive handwriting. Its in this Forum Category. I believe four people are banned on page 2. Not that much, but to have them all in the same thread. I thought something might of gone wrong.

Now you've piqued my interest...all four of them had 4000+ posts and were obviously regular members. I'm not exactly sure if it's okay to talk about all this though, or if this topic is to live for much longer.

This has come up before, Claudius wsa pretty much on the money, you can read about it here. The last post in the thread by Fable sums up what the fuss was about, and why action was taken. Fable then closed the thread, I suspect C-K'R[PhoEniX] is correct about this thread not lasting too long either.

Total disregard for forum rules and policies and wishes from the administrator is rarely accepted, regardless of "how long" one have been on a forum.

So I'm closing this thread to consolidate as the matter is dead.
