ofcourse, she wouldnt be sent away to a place where she would get killed, but since you need a certain time of legal citizenship as naturalised Dutchy before you can be eligible for office, she would loose that.

also, she did indeed complain that she was being held "prisoner" after the murder of van Gogh (Theo), but she had asked for that. I believe that preparations for a sequel of submissions is on the way. So how can you blame the new neighbours in the flat for complaining? their safety is suddenly at risk too. An insane religious fanatic will not readily discern his target from simple bystanders and will certainly not care if some of that group perish too.

As to the circumcission thing... I bet, no... I know that this is a fact of life in any country where people life who believe in that procedure. It is illegal here, but hard to stop. In fact, it is impossible to stop and since not many women who were treated that way complain to the police, often because they are here illegaly and sometimes dont speak the language very well (yes that happens).

Also, it is surprising that Hirshi Ali, or more likely the author of this piece, did not expect fundamentalist feelings to be present in the netherlands, or denmark for that part. It is a historical fact that people who have left a homeland cling to what they have left of their culture. Mormons, Amish... they were considered fanatics by any european counterparts left at home

Does that make it acceptable? Slavery was once also a fact of life, and in fact in certain regions of Africa still is. That doesn't make it acceptable.

When Hirsi Ali left Kenya, I doubt she had very much information on that score and I think it's that what Hitchens refers to. You can hardly expect someone who grew up in a refugee camp to have that kind of infromation. So it is not surprising at all.

Or prostitution at a young age?

In India you see girls around the age of 7 beside the roads selling their body to make money, would you say that is acceptable?

Neither Hirsi Ali, nor the writer grew up in a refugee camp. She grew up in relative wealth and enjoyed reasonable education in Kenia.

A classic dillema, isn't it? She's no more than an economic refugee, in some circles known as a "leech" and she lied to be able to stay here, which is against the rules. But she's lived here for a long time and contributed to politics and she's respected at that position by many.

Although the immigration law in the UK is designed to prevent "economic refugees" entry to this country, and the term is derogatory in tone, I have never seen any logic to that.

Today, Verdonk concluded in a letter that Hirsi Ali never received the dutch nationality. It is expected Hirsi Ali will resign somewhere this afternoon
