Thanks everyone - sorry I wasn't here when this was first posted, been studying for the last two weeks for mid-semester tests. It's all over now, and I can finally get a break from Uni, just for one week though.
Yay, I can finally get my driver's license - still waiting for the test, which is less than two weeks away.

Thanks Tamerlane, the test shouldn't be too hard - although they have increased the number of questions. Then again they release the CD package for you to try at home - still haven't looked at it yet though, should do that soon.

Do the tests differ from state to state. In WA, we have to log like 100 hours with as a learner, pass the electronic test afterwards and the instructors no longer tell you what they expect you to do, instead they give you scenarios and mark you according to what you do. I did mine recently, after wasting a year or so on my learners.

In VIC, they recommend that you get about 120 hours of driving practice before aplying for your Permit license - but it is not really necessary, as long as you're fairly comfortable with driving then it's ok. The first part of the test consist of a practical driving test - so you'll drive the car around the area with the marker sitting in the car and telling you what to do - where to turn, parking, reverse, etc. - and mark you according to how well you drive and that sort of thing. If you pass that then you need to do the computer test - I can't remember how many questions there will be, I think it's around 30 or so.
