| | Personally, I have a great dislike for really general stuff like that. Either it's so broad I can't think of anything or I struggle to apply it to the question.
That kind of question seemed quite common in my Religious Education exam which was basically lots of opinion based questions where backing up an opinion would get lots of marks. I didn't do so well at that.
Broad questions/specifications can sometimes help though, I guess it depends on the situation. Small time limits to answers things like exams I wouldn't be too happy about.
I didn't misinterpret the thread did I? Wasn't sure if it's the question or possible answers to it.
If this thread gets closed, can a mod move my post or something? |

Positive reinforment is your will towards something for the rewarding aspects, and negative reinforcement is the freedom or abscence of negative aspects that you gain.
I will give you my serious opinion on what success is, and I would define it as being the person you want to be, living the life you want to live, in constant development and never loosing interest. Success is your personal happiness and contentment as well as your functional level in your choosen context/s.
I do however dislike the words "success" and "failure" since they sound like typical polarised American life-coach words to me. |

| | | Success is achieving an objective, whether set or otherwise. Success is measured in personal objectives: to one person, success is getting married and raising a family, whereas another person's opinion of success is financial.

I don't know if it is intentionally, or because you simply just don't know better - for instance how debates/disucssions work, or how people actually exchange opinions and viewpoints, but if you wish to ask questions, then do so specifically as you can to begin with.
You are asking people to define something very very subjective which doesn't have a clear definition to begin with, within a very unclear open context, and then you complain that the answers you get? Do you not see the paradox in that?
Now, back on track and keep this thread clean....

| | @Phreddie: Some general advice: here at SYM there are many people who enjoy discussion and communication at a serious level. Many people here are mature and highly knowledgable in a variety of fields. Only a few people have replied to your thread, you should try to ask yourself why, and compare your posting style to similar threads that have gotten more replies and a vivid discussion. You write: Quote: |

Originally Posted by Phreddie but i was asking for your opinion on success, dont gimme bull like its an exam just gimme wat u tihnk it is. | apart from your incorrect spelling and bad grammar, this sentence give a very bad impression. You demand that people post in order to help you with your exam, and you also feel the need to point out "dont gimme bull" as if you thought people would unless you told them not to.
Again, try to read some old discussion threads so you get a sense on how to start discussions and how to word your post.
Anyway, I will reply to your last question: Quote: |

| Certainly neither money nor power. That may be the Hollywood definition of success, but thankfully a lot of people don't want to live according to the narrow media stereotypes.
Something like "a constantly developing happiness and fulfilment regarding one's life and oneself".

That's "success," and it means being able to do something I enjoy on a regular basis, both to my own satisfaction and (where social interaction is involved) that of others. Neither money nor power are part of that equation, but personal growth, learnig about the world around me, writing, giving and receiving love and friendship are included in it.
