Starting a Business

Ok, so I've been working at various places for a while now, dealing with Business-esq stuff, so I know a few odds and end about what it takes to run one, but I'm still pretty clueless.

My college doesn't do Major/Minor, jut Majors. So I'm focusing on specifically what my business would be about, Graphic Design, rather than the business mechanics itself. So, I'm curious if there are any beginner, and preferably basic books on how to run a local shop for making various graphic designs. I'm not looking for some corporate heavy Harvard business stuff, just the basics that I'll need to keep it going for as long as possible.

Any book recommendations I could check out?

Good luck man! I had a thought but I was wishing I still had the contact info of the businessman I met (he was a physicians assistant too) at my orientation when I did hospital pharmacy. He had taught business at the university and one thing he said was "always do your homework". I believe he worked a small business and also gem sales somehow???

Ok but thats not a suggestion is it because I have lost touch with this guy! But my recomendation is to call some faculty at a local college and talk to the guys. I think you are in hoosierdome so call some IU faculty and have a talk.

How does that sound?

PS another thing he said is if your gonna swim with the sharks...something or other hehe...some business is the domain of the sharks! yikes!

Sorry, don't have any book titles as most of such boosk I've read were either very superficial or .... well - superficial

But good luck with attempting to start - make sure the legal and economical aspects are in place to begin with.
I know in this country it is possible for people starting companies to get some free - or near free legal and accounting help to help set up. Might be something similar exists in your country? Worth trying to find out at least, cause it could be very helpful.
