Speculations on the Life of Christ (DVC Spoilers)

A friend and I were recently discussing the Da Vinci Code.
Not its artistic merits (or lack thereof), but the actual ideas presented in the book/movie.
Namely, the notion that Christ did not die on the cross, but rather, married Mary Magdalene, travelled to France and sired the Merovingian bloodline.

Yes, the DVC and the book preceding it (The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail) are masquerading as a portrayal of factual information and legitimate historical research, but I find the suggestions within to be a reasonable enough. I'm not saying I believe them wholesale or anything, I'm just stating that to my mostly secular background the notion that Christ did not die on the cross and was a flesh and blood mortal seems completely plausible. I even think it is likely he had children. As far as the Merovingian bloodline goes....... that is questionable at best, IMO.
Anyway, what do people think?

The Small Print

1. This thread is not intended to discuss either the merits or shortcomings of the Da Vinci Code. We already had a thread like that
2. I hate to sound like a grade school teacher here... but given that this topic has the potential to be contentious and that we all are from many different backgrounds, let's keep it respectful, eh.

I didn't remember the book suggesting that Christ didn't die. Was that suggested in the Holy Blood/Holy Grail book?

I didn't think that either of those books claimed that Christ did not die on the cross. I seem to remember them saying that Jesus married Mary Magdalen, that she was pregnant at the time of the crucifixion, and that she fled to France to preserve the sacred bloodline. This bloodline becoming the Merovingians.

You finished that sentence with "eh" . . . *grumbles about Canadians*

I dunno. It sounds plausible. But I'm not sure on the whole Priory of Sion thing. Seems a little faked to me. (Especially the Dossier Secres found in the Bibloutheque Nationale')

lol @ Chim

Hmmm... Come to think of it, it's a while since I read The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, it's entirely possible I confused the death (or not) on the cross with something else.

But, regardless, the thought of Christ having an heir is an interesting one, IMO.

The Priory of Sion is a proven hoax--some man trying to prove he was in line to be king of France.

I think the idea of Christ having a wife and child is wonderful. It makes his life seem more normal and whole.

I have posted a poem which approaches the same thought from a different point of view.
