A thread in the tech forum reminded me of something I've thought about on occasion. Personally, I don't care for overly large monitors, I use my desk for various things, and I don't like my computer to dominate it. Hence, I have a 17 inch LCD screen which suits my purposes nicely. It's big enough for gaming, but it doesn't overwhelm my desk.

Anyone else have preferences on monitor/screen size?

My monitor is bigger than you can handle....

If it's one of the older style monitors anything above 19 is WAY too unwieldy. I have an L desk at work, so I can stick its big butt in the corner of the L so a 19" fits pretty well. At home I have a 17" and it works fine.

With the newer thin monitors I like the size of a 21" so I can set it further back on the desk and not have it poking me in the eye but still see lots of detail.

Just so long as it's bigger than yours...

19 inch. Bought at a price lower than most 17 inches.

I have a 19" CRT monitor also bought at a good price (Iiyama), I remember it was a nightmare trying to move it though...
Anything over 19" is excessive, I think...it would take up too much room.

lol!
Well beyond the inconvenience of having something huge staring at you from your desk, I've usually been of the opinion that "bigger," does not necessarily mean "better."

I would probably consider a 19 inch screen, but certainly nothing beyond that. The only way I'd want something like a 21 inch is if I had a specified gaming computer in its own corner of the house.

As you know I've just got my 19" LCD and let me say this - I wouldn't want anything bigger, this is just at the limit. True I was used to the 17s but still, this is more than enough!

I have a 19'' CRT, mostly because when I bought it LCDs were still pretty atrocious (glare, low color depth, low viewing angle, etc) and I still gamed so I wanted everything to look pretty.
I'd absolutely love to replace it with two LCDs, so I get a setup similar to this. Working with two screens is incredibly convenient; imagine never having to alt-tab.

I have no idea how big my monitor is, nor do I care really. It's big enough to suit my needs, and it's not too gigantic to take up a large amount of space. It's one of the older ones, though, so it's the bulky kind.

I have a 17" monitor and its easily big enough for my needs. I don't really see the point in getting a bigger one as this one is perfectly fine.

My monitor is a 19" LCD with a very high refresh speed.
I payed it 300 Euro at bargain price a few months ago! It is very nice and, most importantly, it takes less space that its predeccessor, the old 14" CRT which now lies in the garbage can...
(I need to make room... i have three computers in this very room! )

My current resolution is 1280x1024 pixel with 32bit.

21" Princeton Flat Screen LCD.

Oh yes. Draw the curtains, and it makes Morrowind look fabulous (it's atrocious trying to play in bright sun though)

This is slightly embarrassing, but I don't really like LCDs because of the fixed resolution. I prefer old huge CRT abominations that destroy the entire room with their grotesque appearances. Sad but true.
