Well there have been a lot of singers recently going into films. The latest (Eminem) got me to thinking. (And all of the new films have bombed big time)

Is it just me, or do these movies stink worse then the strange thing crawling in the back of the fridge?

And sometimes these films can really hurt the career of the singer *cough*Mariah Carey and Glitter*cough* (I never liked Mariah Carey's music anyway, so no loss)

So what do other people think of singers going into movies, and if there were any good films with a singer in it, which film was it?

The only film I can think of that starred a singer and I liked it was "D!ck Tracy" with Madonna in it.

I don't it ruins the career of the singer, I think the career has to be ruined before going into that new line of work. In most cases though (Jennifer Lopez for example) some try to multitask, as it were, and excel at neither of the two. If they were to stick to maybe one career, then they could develop a shred of talent, but instead they diversfy, and just blow all round. Oh well...

Though, in the case with 8 Mile, it actually looks like a decent movie, as it is based on Eminem's climb into "rapdom." It is the only thing with his name in it that I've ever been interested in.

There have also been a lot of actresses going into the music business lately. Off the top of my head, I can only name Jennifer Love Hewitt, but, I've read about quite a few others. I've actually seen JLH's music video and had quite a good laugh. I've seen better singing from Weird Al!

Jennifer Lopez has done some movies that I've liked. Enough and Wedding Planner were good. I'm kind of looking forward to the one she's filming now, Jersey Girl. Kevin Smith is the producer and I love his work. Clerks is my all time favorite movie!

Grease was quite successful although I prefer to view it as having cast of singers who couldn't act and actors who couldn't sing. But it is a cult classic

Singers going into acting to me seems like football players going into basketball. The two are unrelated professions, so why would they want to split their time like that, instead of focusing and excelling at one?

I fraternize with everyone.

@Zel Yes, that seems to be the main problem. I think certain singers want to take full advantage of their current popularity, so that when theyve lost their popularity, which they WILL lose, because todays music doesnt last, and they want to savor every moment. Its like Lou Bega knew his song "Mamba #5" was going to be his only hit, so in a span of 6 months he marketed everything, and savored his popularity, then disappeared.

I like Weird Al..and yes he does sing bad. But he makes me laugh so it's OK. He just recently did a song about SpongeBob SquarePants. It's hilarious!

Spongebob SquarePants??? That cartoon is just wrong. Id love to see it parodied, though.

I think it has some mind-numbing hypnosis thing going on, once you start watching you can't stop.

It's like a really bad movie, you don't really want to watch but can't help yourself!

I'll have to see if I can find a link to Weird Al's parody of it and post it here.

Hahaha...from what I've been reading I think they'll handle it just fine.

It's good to know that most everyone here has such great sense of humours!

Well we'll see, I guess.

Yup. SYM is great like that. Glad you find it as positive as I do.
