After a few months of browsing shaving forums my SO finally broke down today and decided to get reacquainted with the pleasures of a wet shave using a safety razor.
During his perusal of forums like "Badger and Blade" he observed that a lot of guys there are also gamers, and he asked me if there was some kind of a connection. I said that since I wasn't generally prone to discussing shaving with the guys at Banshee, I had no idea. I suggested, though, that since gamers tend to naturally gravitate to forums, it's probably the case that any forum, no matter the area of dedication, is going to have a significant percentage of members who game.

So.... do the gents of Banshee often wet shave, or has my SO simply noticed an interesting coincidence?

I wet shave but it has nothing to do with gaming lol, its simply because you get a smoother shave that way

Used to bother shaving. For the past year or so, I have decided the Grizzly Adams look is so much better.

Same here. I wet shave too for the above reasons.

What is wet shaving? I'm thinking that it implies shaving with just water, but since this somehow involves gaming, I have no idea.

This page explains it much better than I can

That umm, sounds incredibly painful. Plus, I don't think I could survive trying it once, Carpal tunnel and all.

I've done it before. Nothing beats the closeness of the shave.

O_O

What's wrong with using a shaver?
Works for me

SHAVING FORUMS???? People have waaaay too much time on their hands. Personally I spend my time on eyebrow-plucking forums before dropping in on my fave toenail-trimming forum.

Yes, I wet shave, as do most of my friends. I can't use an electric shaver because my beard is too coarse and thick, and during my army days I spent week after week without electrical power, so it was the natural solution.

And I might add there is nothing like having a barber give you a straight razor shave...although in the US, this is a thing of the past, last one I was able to get was Paris, France and that was 5 years ago.

I found it pretty funny that they compared daily shaving too the Zen tea ceremony. I'm not entirely mocking it as many activities can have a degree of calm concentration and open heartedness like the tea ceremony.

Just sounds funny is all.

At first I didn't know what wet shaving was. I thought it was shaving in the shower which is what I do using a multi razor and soap.

I have heard about this, and yes it does sound indeed lovely...though you'd want to hope that you weren't sitting in the chair when an earthquake hit.... (we live directly on the San Andreas fault)
Luckily for the gents that do, a number of traditional barbershops here in Vancouver still offer a shave with a straight razor.

...I admit to finding this whole thing quite fascinating, I'm especially amused by what is apparently referred to as "razor acquisition disorder" (RAD) or "shaving brush acquisition disorder." (SBAD)
The only thing is... I fear this sort of thing could be contagious. I don't need anything heavy duty when I shave my legs, but even so, I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that women get gypped where such products are concerned (actually women just get gypped by body care, hair cuts and fashion generally.. but I digress).

lmao!
Hey, this is far more constructive than the Google politics group he was posting at before, there they just engage in mudslinging.

Just as long as you haven't adopted a bear cub as well... I can't see the good citizens of St. Kit's adjusting terribly well to something like that....

If you must asked this bearded GameBanshee, person, I honestly use an electric razor, partly because I'm afraid to be hospitalized for multiple face cuts. That, and my hair tends to curl a bit, so I have a feeling electrics are more desirable in my case. I mostly shave my sidburns and mustache.

My brother, though, has at least tended to wet shave in the past. He tended to use one of the newere Gillete safety razors and one of those top-dollar shaving creams. Don't know if he's still using that or if he went back to an electric, though.
