So. The World Cup is about to start, I guess we should start discussing it now
Of course, Brazil has the best team, or at least the favourite one. I, for one, will disapoint many who think that I'll be wishing them luck. I wont. I want another team to win. Netherlands, for one. It would be fair, they have a great team. And Portugal, another team that is a good nominee.
Any team, any name you guys would like to share?

Why don't you want Brazil to win? They play the most beautiful football.
Personally I will be cheering for Argentina this time, I think they deserve a win after their long period of football- and economic misery, and they will have a good team this time. I'm looking forward to See Messi play for something that is not Barca.

Well I'd love to see Australia go through till the end, we've had some success in the Confederate Cup but alas soccer/football is still not a popular sport down here. Hopefully this will help to generate some interest.
My dark horse would be France, you can't just win a world cup and a major euro tourney and then disappear off the world stage.

Yes, Australia all the way... though it will be tough beating Brazil in our pool .
But hey, we'd have to do it eventually, and do it we shall.

BBC Sports have a World Cup predictor here which seems mighty fun. My money is on an Italy vs. Brazil final.

My bet is either Argentinia or Brazil. There doesn't seem to be a european national team at the moment which can compeete in stability, especially after tha abysmal performance in the last european cup.
And Denmark didn't even qualify because we played draws at some of the lower ranking countries - grrrr - but at least it is about time we get some new people into our national team.
Anyways - I hope we'll see some surprieses, my take is that the sweedish team, if they can keep their stability, can indeed go far (hehe - got money on them as winners to odds 25:1 ), and Germany is usually a tradionally cup-team getting better the further they get, but I don't see them as getting far this year though. Unless the "homefield advantage" will bring some added spirit to it.
Unless they show something new, I don't see the other more tradionally "larger" european teams - France, Portugal (which never seems to show anything in a cup), Spain and England actually performing out of expectations.
So I fear basically it'll be a tad boring this time.

| Hehe, I would take you up on that any time. I think they will make it to the quarterfinals at best. Quote: |

| I nurturing a small hope that England will do better than usual. They will have a nice team this time, so it would be a shame if they went out early. The BBC predictor said they are going out against Argentina though.
To bad Ivory coast got in the same group as Holland and Argentina, sad to see any of those teams not reach second round.

Brazil or Argentina. Brazil is certainly the best team and play the most beautiful football, but Argentina also has a very good team and they would need a win after their sad fate in Japan/Korea 2002.
I'd like to see England 3rd, but I doubt it.
I am still very disappointed that we will not see the brilliant Samuel Eto'o in the World Cup

Being Dutch, I cheer for Holland of course.
However, for the first time in my life, I don't mind seeing Brazil win either. Kaka has quickly become my favourite player, and it's a joy to watch him play the game.
Normally, I'm an Italy fan too. Nesta, Pirlo, Gattuso ( ) and Cannavaro... are among my favourite players, but it's sad that Maldini quit the national team.

| | | Half of the squads won't come far at all and the other half deserves to win. There's so many good teams, as it should on a World Cup, that the finale will undoubtedly be grand, but I really can't say who'll be in that titan's match.
Ofcourse I hope Holland wins, but I'm also interested in South Korea and Australia as the well-fed underdogs. Greece won the ECC... Anything could happen.
However, my best hopes are on a finale Germany vs. Netherlands. This requires one of us to become second in our group and win all other matches... Ofcourse, Germany must be eliminated. It's an eternal feud we have with them.

But honestly, since I've been out of the loop for a year or two and don't really know the teams, I think I'll be rooting for the West-African teams & Angola. And if they get eliminated, well I might just start supporting the Netherlands. on condition that they either stop exporting Heineken, or take of the word beer of the label. Hell, I might even start singing Hup Holland Hup!
Though in no case I'll be supporting Brazil, even if they are probably the best bet to win, again (that 1/8th final in 2002 still hurts).

@Lestat: I would like to see an African team go far as well, but sadly I think they wont. They all have lousy defence...

Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Angola & Tunisia are the African teams that participate this time.
