Ridiculous Major/Concentration

I don't know how many of you are in College right now, or have recently graduated, or are in Graduate School (which is WAY better in this respect), or at least can remember your college days. Well, for those of you who are/can, what's the most ridiculous Major or Concentration (some colleges like Major, some Concentration, mine uses Concentration) you've ever heard of? For me, "Ethics" takes the cake. How on earth are you supposed to have an exam on "Ethics"? What kind of research paper could you possibly write? And, most importantly, what the heck kinda job could you get with an Ethics degree? The only job I could imagine is as an Ethics Professor. Sort've like a self-propogating thing!

Another is "American Civilization". It's like some odd combination of American History and Pop Culture. I don't see how this could possibly be a Concentration, as once again the pure Pop Culturalists will see you as an uptown snob with a degree, and the American Historical Intellectuals will see you as a redneck fool who thinks incorrectly that he knows any history whatsoever. It's sad, the things people will live with just to get any college degree at all.

I could think of many possible papers to write on the very general subject Ethics.

The usage of ethics in the buisness world. The lack of ethics .... the (dis)advantages of ethics ... ethics as a positioning/differentiation tool, ethics in organisations, Human Ressources etc....

Ethics is one of the core concepts in many mangement "buzzwords" these days, and has been so for a number of years.

Computer Information Science.

Reason? Sure..you might be able to get a good paying job..but you have to compete with the other 80% of the students who also have this stupid major/degree..as well as having to compete with every single one of those stupid tech specific schools and do-it-from-home mail-in degrees.

Theatre Arts

You get to say "I am good at acting"..oh yay..and then you get beat out of a spot on TV, Film, or Stage by some hot guy or chick with a big rack just because they look good.

I say it is fine to go ahead..get a degree or something in college, graduate, but do it for yourself..nobody else gives a crap if you have a degree though.

Ethics is pretty important, given that it is just the study of how the world should be...

So it IS important to companies and organisations, but most crucially it is the thought behind all governments. Governments have 'ethical foreign policies', but, given the nature of government - deciding how a country will be in the future, all government policy is essentially an ethical issue.
