LOL @ Minerva. I used to be a great fan of Team Oranye (I think that's how they spell in Dutch). But their "total football" play are keep degrading after the "Milan Trio" era

Well, our players are pretty good, some amongst the best of the world. But they are all bought away from Holland. So, some play in Italy, Great Brttain (a lot of Dutch players there!) and spain etc. None of them are used to playig "our" way anymore. Besides, they are spoiled brats. They think they are soooooooo great... pff
But they won't get any attention this WK so interst in them might decrease, perhaps they will get a kick back into this reality because of this.

Seeing that this thread has been hijacked for the World Cup, it seems that CNNSi.com has picked Italy to be the overall champion as well as offering some other prognostications. Being an American, I don't have much of an interest in soccer, er, football, but I was wondering what you guys had to say about this.

@HLD: I don't think Karembeu would mind talking about football in his thread. Mind youl, he's already got one football thread, actually.
Here in UK, it seems France and Argentine (surprise, surprise) are the main favourites. England has a chance if they can reach the knock-out stage, and that's a quite big if.

@Ysh & CE : We should form Nigeria for 2002 Champion club then ! [/b]
| Count me in *looks around to ensure Karembeu doesn't hear me* I actually like Nigerias style, they are much more fun to watch than the boring and mediocre Swedish team... *runs again*

| | | @CE: nigeria rule! they do much better than people seem to expect, as they're not hyped as much as other teams (over here at least), but are still a good team. actually, the BBC televised the african cup of nations thingy a while ago, and some of those matches were far more enjoyable than the turgid slogging of the top european teams.

@Robnark: I think many Europeans don't appreciate the African teams enough - I watched African Nations Cup first time many years ago when Eurosport broadcasted it, and I was pleasantly surprised the football was so much more fun to watch than the old England-Germany 0-0 games. It actually made me interested in football again after having become tired of it One of my friends always used to laugh at my liking of African football - until he watched African Nations Cup and started liking it himself
It's a pity though that the defensive play of many European teams often kill the fast-forward style of play teams like Kameroon and Nigeria have.

| | | @CE: i agree, the african all-out attacking style is wonderful to watch. and this is coming from a person who never watches (league or, usually, international) football, and considers it uninteresting, slow and uneventful.

Well, following the quest for Lord Stanely, I'm going to try and watch the entire Fifa World Cup... Maybe that'll spark an interest in this sport.
