I was so upset about hearing he passed (2nd favorite comedian all time behind George Carlin) I was in a state of shock for damn near an hour, going through all my memories I had of him and his work. I nearly cried but managed to abstain because I know he'd rather we remembered him with laughter instead of tears. You could see in his comedy that he was a very warm-hearted person and it's a huge loss for makind: we lost a great man and, above all, a great friend. Fortunately he won't ever be forgotten, being survived by every comedian (professional or casual) alive today: every stand-up poking fun at race and drugs, every smart-aleck waving a lit match around asking "guess what this is", and every kid who recites a fart joke to their friends during recess all owe a great debt of gratitude, whether they know it or not, to Mr. Pryor.
I've often said that comedians don't get enough credit for their work because there is no greater gift you can give than to make another smile and laugh. In laughter, all the world seems fair, brighter and happier than it really is, and Lord knows nobody made us all laugh harder than Rich.
We miss you bud.

We miss you bud. | And yet somehow, I dont think hed want to be remember as a Great, Inspiring man, I tihnk hed want to be remembered more in the spirit of his (as far as I know) last major Special: Richard Pryor: I ain't Dead Yet deleted: avoiding the language filter - Maharlika
It is a great loss to ourselves and our ociety, there are many honest comedians, but they got old to the public, no ones listens its a stael breed so to speak, we need a new Pryor, a new crazy man, most likely not going to be black, but of Middle Eastern Decent or a hispanic, Carlos Mencia was threatening to be this man, but he got his show, and well if any of you saw his '01 (what ever year was right after the Anthrax scare) special, he is watered down now... he either needs a defibrilator or a replacement... someone ot open eyes, Pryor came at the wrong time, the world wasnt ready for his honesty... but he was funny as <you know what goes here>.

Oh totally, I couldn't agree more. He'd probably find it pretty damn funny that we're all so worked up over him dying, in fact. I'd tell a tasteless joke about his death but won't: not because it's tasteless (he wouldn't give a rat's ____) but because it wouldn't be funny. It's that second part that would be an insult.

| | | @Phreddie: Seeing that you have been warned a number of times, not only here but in other fora of GB, I'll be recommending a suspension to Buck and the Supermods. Your penchant for violating forum rules have reached its tolerable limit. | | |

I'm just curious, what did he do ? In his defense that was the title of the actual special, not Phred being profane... Maybe trying to avoid the filter was bad but ...

Using titles as justification to ACTUALLY write expletives/avoiding language filter will be a bad precedent if such a thing was tolerated.
What did he do? Many. Trust the GB mods on this. | | |
