Let me just say that I'm an extremely busy person and unfortunately do not spend as much time in these forums as I'd like to. I have a fulltime job and spend a good part of my evenings trying to create content for over a dozen games here on GameBanshee. To give you an idea of what I've been working on lately, over the last two weeks I've been key-entering literally thousands of items and spells into a new Dark Age of Camelot database that you can search here on GameBanshee. It takes several hours a night and I get absolutely nothing for it in return, other than the satisfaction of creating something.

Now, having said that, I can't tell you how disappointing it is to come home from work every day, pull around 50-100 emails, only to see that several of them are complaints... usually about someone's posts here in the forums (although I just got one today that I can't even quote here - the filter would get it - from a person very upset with me that I haven't finished the PoR walkthrough). Dealing with these complaints takes time; time I could be spending on creating site content.

There's a link to a few simple rules at the top of every page, yet people continually ignore them. And when I step in and issue a warning, I'm pretty much guaranteed to receive some hate mail from that person telling me that people have done the same thing in the past and I didn't say a word.

Anyway, the point of this post is to request that everyone try their best in here to just stay civilized, respect one another, and keep your debates on a friendly level. This will not only give you a more positive message board to visit, but it will also give me the time I need to produce content for the site. Thank you.

Okay. I will not bother you unless absolutely necessary, Buck.

I guess it'd be kinda ridiculous to ask you to reply to the PM I sent you a few days ago...

I would just like the point out that you can contact the moderators about certain issues.

I realise that i might be viewed as somewhat of a comedy figure, not to be taken entirely seriously. I am okay with that, if you feel like i won't take your comments or questions seriously then that is up to you.

However there are two other SYM moderators that can be contacted, you feel like you have a problem, one of us will deal with it to the best of our abilities.

Rather than send a message to Buck (who as mentioned has several hundred to wade through) send one to me or the others and we will hopefully bring some kind of finality to the situation.

ps i am mostly contactable over PM.

Also, even though I am not quite a mod of this forum, I am also around to hear of violations, and could either pass them on, or take care of it. Buck is right though, and many of us have seen this. His message for civility is one many of us (Mods) have been preaching for awhile now.

I agree with Sleep. I check my email and pms daily. If there's a complaint that the moderators can deal with, let us know.

Hoorah!

Maybe if we make the rules more visible to the people, it might make them more aware...

Buck, I'm very sorry and unpleasantly surprised to hear you receive a lot of complaints that really should be taken to the Mods rather than you. I certainly hope you will not get discouraged in any way by this, this site is great and it's still the only message board I have ever visited regularly.

Some of the SYM discussions include sensitive and emotionally loaded topics that should absolutely not be avioded but rather, treated with respect for and understanding of individual differences in background, culture, personal opinion, etc. I hope we all can adherse better to that in the future.

Are there any sanctions other than being banned which could be enforced upon violators? I realise that a good caning or swift kick in the butt is not possible, and a slap with a wet noodle might actually be exciting for some, but can GameBanshee do anything else to repeat violators? Perhaps a Wall of Shame or posting a Hall of Violators page and their banishment times (with a countdown clock). After all, public humiliation and peer pressure is often more effective than other punishments.

I do not know the legal or financial ramifications, but maybe GameBanshee could fine offenders (ie-$10 every time you flame another member, $5 every time you creatively use text characters to get around the filters, etc.) with the proceeds going to the general operating funds in a system similar to the NFL which routinely hands down fines to players for things from unsportsmanlike conduct to criticising officials or violations of the uniform code.

I would also like to tell Buck and the moderators how much I appreciate all of the time, energy and effort they put into this website and these message boards for basically no personal advancement other than having the opportunity to be spammed by forum members. Thanks again!

Yeah, you can e-mail the moderators as

moderatorname@gamebanshee.com

You don't have to get us all, including Buck, with the "moderators" mail.

Mods - are you all using this as your contactable e-mail?

gruntboy@gamebanshee.com
