| | | Piggy Bottom So, two weekends ago, I got up about midnight to use the facilities. I was blithely doing my business when I heard the backyard fence move. I thought, “wind?” and a couple of boards from the shed I am building also fell. But I really didn’t hear the wind. Thinking it might be a clumsy burglar, I turned out the light and looked out the window. A black shape was in the trash can, tearing at an empty bag of cat food. I thought, “Dog?” but then several other black shapes joined it. I heard the grunting, and knew what it was.
I woke my wife, and we went to the back door and turned on the porch light. There was a herd of about a dozen javalina (Collard Peccary) eating the cat food on the porch, and the light didn’t bother them in the least. They were grunting and knocking things over and having a great time. I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots through the glass, without using the flash. I knew these shots wouldn’t come out, so I put the flash on, guessed at the focus, and opened the door. The javalina scattered away, and I only got a picture of the slowest one running away. This is the picture. Too bad you can’t smell their musk. They are really amazing critters. Attn. @Aegis: What is a Skiperkee? | A skiperkee (sp) is a type of dog bred in the southern untied states. By looking at it, you'd swear it was a pig bred with a dog of some sort. they're really loyal pets, but loud and mean if you get them pissed off. My friend has two of them. |
