| | | In the few times I've been paintballing, I've always done so in closed groups (no more than 10 people). While there is the risk of injury or even death, it is a slim one, as long as people aren't idiots. I personally was shot, at close range (5 feet) right below the throat, and couldn't breath for a bit, and it left a welt, and another time shot at close range in the wrist, and it opened a cut, but that's been the worst of it. I'm for it, it's great excercise, and it allows people to shoot stuff, in a non violent way. |

| | There's always a risk of injury in anything. It cracks me up that people who put their kids into karate classes would balk at something like paintball Maybe it's the gun thing that freaks people out?...

| | | I was shot in the back of the head several years ago. We were playing a game called "Predator" (every person for them self) and I was stalking another player when I heard someone coming up behind. He was about 20 feet away so I turned to dive away and take cover when he shot a burst. Two paintballs hit me in the back and one got up under my helmet and hit me at the base of the skull, leaving a nice welt. I'm told I was only out for about 20 seconds or so.
There is a local tournament here in the civic center every year; I've gone to watch, but never participated. It seems to me that the sport is a very expensive one to get involved with (although certainly no more so than golf; less actually) because of the investment required to get and maintain good equipment.
@Taco Magus:
Do you prefer to play on closed courses and arenas or outdoors in the woods?

| | | Do you prefer team games (elimination or capture the flag) or individual games (free for all)?

| | My friends and I play at a series of fields set up to create various war fields. My favorite was 'Hochi Mein Trail', which was nothing but 20 acres of bush. Four of us, against 6 of them. We did without a single casualty on our end, and I personally captured two people, and made 1 kill... I scared the hell out of them by spouting some Vietnamese words of them. |

| | Aside from the head injury, my experience is that laser tag causes more injuries than paintball. For one, it's usually played in the dark amid all sorts of strange-shaped obstacles and artificially generated smoke. Plus there are usually little kids afoot that are easy to trip over.
I was with some buddies at Magic Mountain in Columbus, OH, when one of them wasn't looking where he was going, turned a corner and ran smack dab into an obstacle, breaking his nose and bleeding all over the place (he was a gamer, though; he kept playing until the music stopped and still managed to finish third in the group before we had to take him to the ER). I've also seen more twisted knees and rolled-up ankles from laser tag than I have from paintball (it doesn't help that many of the times I played laser tag in college, there was usually some drinking involved) where I think people tend to be a little more safety-conscious. Aside from the bruises, I think the average paintballer is less prone to injury than a laser tag player.

| | @HLD:...OUCH....your poor friend.... You are right of course about little kids, that is why we rent the arena for the afternoon I see your point though...I guess we have been lucky....None of us have ever been seriously hurt playing either....But I like the atmosphere of lazer tag....and nasty paintball bruises on my legs just ruin the look when I wear a skirt
Of course in the winter when I wear pants and sweaters.....Who cares

i like playing teams and FFA. we play a few differnt ways. cappture the flag w/ respawning.
another is we all start in the middle. some one counts to ten. we all start running. when he gets to ten we are alowed to shoot. this one goes a bit faster...

@Taco Magus:
In your opinion, who makes the best paintball equipment? When purchasing a paintball gun, what are the most desirable features to look for? To what extent should you balance safety with stealth, weight, and heat when purchasing gear and clothing?
Does you play paintball competitively?
