Okay, I am sitting here, very full of white wine, champagne, oysters on the half shell and fresh (very fresh) Dungeness crab...
and this has gotten me to thinking about the mythical effects of oysters...
Now what do people think.... do certain foods really amplify shall we say certain desires... or is this all in the mind.. um well maybe not the mind precisely..

Well, DW, since you are the one who had oysters and champaine, why don't you tell us if it worked?
I think it's more then the food though. Most of the time when you eat oysters, it's in a nice restaurant.
Also, it's nice and slippery when you eat it, which is erotic.
So I think it's not so much something in the food that makes you amplify certain desires. It's more how you eat it, where you eat it, with who you eat it. Stuff like that.

The food doesn't really matter.

When considering eating oysters on de half-shell, be wary of what time of year it is. If I'm not mistaken, during the fall the molluscs are not good for your health.
@DW: Good food in general is an aphrodesiac. Even better, good food prepared by one's romantic interest is one of the most effective aphrodesiacs there is. That old saying can be modernized thus: "The way to anyone's heart is through their stomach." Amen!
Case in point: My fiancee scored big time points with me when she sprung her custom spaghetti sauce on me one night. I would have loved to engage in intimate conversation with her during that dinner...but was too wrapped up in gastronomic ecstasy to speak. Italian sausage, mushrooms, zucchini, a few other special touches...oy vay!

DW, in northeast Brazil they have a soup of oysters. To... hm... make man and women strong for intercourse... you know. And I had it. Twice. Girl, it works. And pepper is good for that too.

I think you may be right though, that a lot of psychologyy is involved. For example, when I was first introduced to oysters they were breaded and deep-fried. While I certainly found them tasty, they did not trigger any erotic associations for me. Then I encountered raw oysters... served simply on ice with a touch of lemon... and well I was transported. The taste evokes the ocean, which in itself inspires poetry, it is a simple, clean taste, yet incredibly complex. Plus, the sight of an attractive serving platter covered by ice, oysters, and interspersed with lemon can be quite visually appealing.... and suggestive to one's imagination.. Quote: |

I don't disagree I do think though that some foods are perhaps more likely to inspire erotic thoughts than others. I mean I really enjoy a good lasagna, for example, but the visual impact and taste, though certainly heaven, do not have quite have the same effect on me.. as well.... um raw oysters... Quote: |

Though, I'm guessing that this is a subject open to considerable debate

[/url] | Yep, debating about this may take decades though...
My theory, so much better than iodine, is that the delicate smell and the taste makes the body feels more "alive" and ready to intercourse or something similar like that. So, you get "on" faster and with far more intensity.
I dont like to drink wine before sex, cause it makes my mind too slow, leave me in a full of fog place. Well, only a few drinks are good.
But food, such as shellfish, fruits, honey (warm honey is veeery good), syrup, they kinda make my feelings and the sensations stronger, very stronger and deeper.
