odd happenings with Gmail and Firefox

I have recently been experiencing something peculiar with Gmail and Firefox. If I go directly to Gmail from my Gmail Notifier icon, I can log-in and I'm taken to my inbox, as per normal.
However, if I try to go to Gmail from another page, such as GB for example, it will load the log-in page, I'll fill in my name and password, it starts to load.. and then it reverts back to whatever site I was looking at just before

I have checked Opera and IE and neither give me this problem.

Has anybody else noticed this? I know I'm not the only person at GB who uses Firefox and Gmail, so I thought I'd ask here before trying to contact Gmail and Firefox.

I use Firefox and Gmail and I've not noticed this. I've haven't tried just typing in the Gmail address though as I have a bookmark tab for it that I use. But I've just tried it and had no problems going to Gmail after using Gamebanshee or another site.

Hmm.... bizarre. The same thing happens if I try typing it in, if I use the icon on the Google Toolbar or if I hit my Gmail bookmark.

I wonder if it has something to do with the AV (Kaspersky) I'm trying out for a bit. Maybe something happened to a setting???

It's not a big deal, since there are ways of getting around the problem, it's just mildly irritating.

I use IE and have never had a problem with Gmail.

@DW--have you ever gotten a Gmail from me?

Shana, thanks for the reminder!

I'm so sorry... I received your note while in the middle of all kinds of stuff, and I meant to reply once things had settled down. My memory is like a sieve most days...

Regarding my one problem, I have found I can get to Gmail if I open a new tab from Firefox, so I can just do that. More than anything I'm just perplexed as to what is going on.
