My status

Hey y'all, I don't know if anyone is interested, but here's where I stand.

I am now on day 5 of my wonderful vacation in the US.
I am currently writing this from a relatives apartment in Brooklyn.
I just came back from a great time in Manhatten, where I saw Austin Powers 3 (My movie thread should have my abriviated opinion ), and had an apatizing lunch at 'Zenith', an oriental vegetarian place on 52 St. & 7th Ave.

Purchases:
'The Usual Suspects' Special edition DVD (One of my favorites, for the ending)
'Wag the Dog' DVD (One of my favorites, for the script)
'Network' DVD (never saw that one)

Here's what I did the past few days:
Monday the 22nd:
I arrived at 5:59 in JFK interntional airport.
I got picked up , got a bit oriented, and went into the city.
I saw k19:The widowmaker in the huge (1400 seats) Astor Plaza movie theater.
I walked around a lot.

Purchases:
'Gosford Park' DVD (One of last years best)
'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' VHS (One of my favorites, for all of it's components)
'Silence of the lambs' VHS (One of my favorites, for Hopkins)
'The Great Train Robbery' VHS (I hadn't seen it in a while, and I remembered liking it).

'Home Alone' OST (for John Williams's magnificent score)
'Amistad' OST (Same as above)
'Road to Perdition' OST (heard some great stuff about it)

Tuesday the 23rd:

I was jet lagged most of the time, but I finaly got up in the afternoon and went to a 16:15 showing of 'Road to perdition' at the Zigfield, one of the top movie theaters in the country. (See my movie thread for my opinion)
That's it for Tuesday.

Wednsday the 24th:

I went to the 'American museum of the moving image', which a fascinating, if not too big, look into movie making. it contains most of Robert Deniro's outfits from his famous movies.
I went to dinner at a nice small resturaunt uptown.

Thursday the 25th:

I went on the ferry to The statue of liberty. The statue itself has been closed since 9/11,, but it still is a sight to see it up close.
I went to Ellis island, which has a big museum about immigration to the US between the 1880's to the 1920's.
I looked through Barnes and Noble nd got a few CDs.
To end the great day, I went to a broadway show, my first.
I saw 'Oklahoma', with the great Rodgers and Hammerstein music.
It was extriemly well acted, and worth every penny of the price ($95.00).

Purchases:

'Minority report' OST (Again, for Williams great music. Havn't heard it yet, but I'm sure it will be great)
'Far and Away' OST (same as the above)
'Empire of the Sun' OST (same as the above)

I'm heading out to Philidelphia on Monday. Then to New Jersey, then back to New York.

Anything you can suggest I see/do would be apritiated.

Wow, you sure are getting your travelling in!

Me, I'm pure Americanese and I've never been to New York...

It sounds like you're really enjoying yourself. As for Philli and New Jersey, I can't really recommend anything to do there (as I haven't been in those states, either) but it can be a lot of fun to just walk along and wing it.

Just wanted to tell you to have a good time. ...But, you seem to be doin' fine on your own.

I go to New York about every 4 years-my sister lives there and its only 4 hour drive from where I live. Its a pretty exciting city. I know my brother and father both absolutely loved broadway and the production "Phantom of the Opera"

I dont care for plays, though.

When I went inside the Statue of Liberty-I didnt realize I had a slight claustrophobic phobia (I dont suffer from it often-its actually quite rare-but not when I was in the Statue). So it was bad. I felt like the walls were closing on me and I constantly tripped on the stairs. I also suffer from my own phobia-and this one isnt minor-I hate being in a large group of people in a small area. I get enraged, uncomfortable. So both of these things worked against me. I was miserable, and I was only a little kid. But thats my little story.

Be sure to visit breakfast shops and people say the delhis there are very good.

If you make it to the Bronx-and you are into animals-the zoo is spectacular, according to my memory. I went about 10 years ago, so things could have changed.

In Philladelphia-I dont know, Ive never been there. The only thing I know thats there is the Liberty Bell, and Ive heard they make great steak and cheese submarine sandwiches.

New Jersey? Ive never heard of anything interesting in that state. I wish you could make it up to Boston. Weve got some sites to see and no one can beat our lobster or clam chowder.

I'm here at the biggest internet cafe' in the world, at times Square. Waiting to see 'Signs' in 11 minutes (that's 12:30).

Greetings. What have you thought of the cities youve been to? And what cities have you gone to so far in your trip?

Here's what I got done since my first update:

I saw 'Minority Report', 'Signs', 'Austin Powers in Goldmember' and AToC in Digital projection.

I walked around Philadelphia, seeing the Art Museum (for the Rocky steps), the liberty bell, independance hall, Franklin court, and, for the best attraction the city has to offer- a baseball game. It was the Phillies Vs. the Giants. The Phillies lost a disgraceful 10-3, but it was a great game.

I went clothes shopping in New Jersey, getting a few odds and ends, and saw a movie about Lewis and Clark in a huge imax theater.

I went to the museum of telivision and radio, seeing the hillarious 'Robin Williams live at the Met', which I heard before, but never saw.

But the best thing, one of the greatest expiriences of my life, highlight of my year, was an expirience not too many people get to have: seeing your idol in preform in person.
That's right, I went to a John Williams concert!!!
It was magnificent- a two hour John Williams concert, with guest preformer Yo-Yo Ma!
It hit me during the three hour drive to concert that I was going to see two people, who are undeinably the best at their professions in the world!
The concert was held at the Koussevitzky shed at the annuel Tanglewood music festival in Lenox, Massachusetts, which is a three hour drive up from New York. The festival is held every summer.
I found I was less paying attention to the great music than to the Maestro himself. Just seeing your idol in person, moving around, speaking, laughing- the feeling is indescribable.
First played was 'Sound the bells', a piece written for the wedding of the prince of Japan in 1993.
Then came the main section- Yo-Yo Ma played the Cello concerto written specificaly for him by Williams in 1994, to celebrate Seigei Ozawa's 25 years as conductor of the Boston Symphony orchestra.
After the intermission Ma played three pieces, Heartwood, Rosewood, and Pickin'.
To end the concert, Williams conducted the BSO to the classic 'Adventures on Earth' from ET.

After the concert I managed to get my picture taken with Ma, who appears to be a very nice person.
To say that it was an amazing expirience would be a huge understatement.

Since my last update, I:

Went to yankee stadium to see them beat the **** out of the Royals
Went to The New York Public Library
Went to NBC studios
Took a very relaxing stroll in Central Park while listening to Simon and Garfunkle- the perfect music for a quiet stroll
Went to Radio City Music hall
Went to the Museum of Television and Radio, which has hundreds of thousands of TV shows on file- a heaven for me
Went to the Hayden Planitarioum to see the great space show narrated by Harrison Ford
And Most importantly..... Got the biggest Diet Coke cup I've ever seen!

I found this great store today which sells CDs, videos and DVDs at pretty decent prices, so I got some odds and ends:

On VHS:
The French Connection- never seen it, wanted to catch up on my Best Picture oscar winners
Miller's crossing- one of the few Coen brothers movies I havn't seen, plus I like Albert Finny and gangster movies
EDTV- Someone asked me for it, plus it was only $5.99!
Arlington Rd.- I remember vaguely liking it, and it was also $5.99, so I figuered why not
The Caine Mutiny- I never saw this classic, plus my family is good friends with Herman Wouk, the author of the book, which was very good

On DVD:
1941: I got one of Spielberg's worst and least seen movies, mainly because I never saw all of it. I know, it's no big loss, but as a fan- I've gotta see 'em all. Plus it's got a making of feature featuring John Williams- that sealed the deal.

On CD:
Superman OST Rhino edition: I got this ultimate recording of the music from Superman in an attempt to get all of John Williams' soundtracks available, which will prove a big challenge, as he has done over 90 of them!
