Mozilla

Mozilla 1.0 (What Netscape 6.0 should have been!) is finally out.

I'm checking it out right now, seems pretty decent. Anyone else risking the venture?

Not bad. It installed in a few minutes on a PII-400 with 256mb memory and WinXP. It didn't require a restart, hasn't bollocksed up XP and seems fairly quick. Doesn't have any shell integration though, but some would argue that that's a good thing.

Me, I'll stick with IE6 though, being the devil I know and all...

Can anyone who's tried both Opera and Mozilla tell me if it's worth switching from Opera? Opera's working fine for me, I have my e-mail integrated into it, I love the Opera taskbar where all my browser windows live (rather than filling up my Windows taskbar like IE does), it's really fast, and generally, I'd need an extremely good reason to switch. Has anyone got one?

Don't use opera for email though, it has a preview pane on it which i couldn't figure out how to turn off and is on by default and this would highten the likeliness of contracting a virus

I use Norton-Antivirus2002, and it scans all incoming e-mail (and files i download by the way) automaticly, including opera mail.

But I prefere Outlookexpress over Opera-mail

Hmm...I didn't know that...I've never been sent a virus though, and the only thing that comes in a preview pane is pictures, just like OE does. There aren't any viruses that transmit through .jpgs, .gifs or .bmps are there?

Not technically, but a virus can say it is a jpg so opera tries to open it and then one is infected. The likelines off being infected with a virus is becoming higher, since it auto opens one can easily get infected...everyone should get Norton and protect their machines (just like Stilgar *pat on the head* )

Is it okay to spam this thread yet?

So when are we going to see Mozilla, King of the Browsers! or Mozilla and Opera vs. Bill Gatesera? And how about Mozilla vs. the Software Garbage Monster?

Don't forget about Mozilla vs. Monster Klez .

As long as we're on the subject of viruses embedded in emails whose scripts activate simply by previewing the mail, please don't forget about viruses embedded in web pages and I-net pop up windows. I know there are software bits available to rid you PC of the pop up ads but people hack and embed viruses in web pages as well. Just another reason for running a solid anti virus program with current updates which are probably available twice a week from your AV provider.

This might be rehashing a lot of known info but if it helps one member of SYM, all the better.

Now, to be on subject, I haven't used opera or Mozilla. I'm an MS slave and will stick to IE6. Is Mozilla real though, it does sound like one massive sea dweller's long lost relative.

Mozilla has Opera's 'tab' feature (I have 5 different ones open in the same window right now).

I've tried Opera before and just found it harder to get used to. Netscape was my first browser, and Mozilla looks similar so I can dive right in.

I'd also rather support Mozilla over Opera simply because it's Open Source (anyone can alter it for the better!). Time for me to re-open my programming skills
