No forum is truely complete without it's resident movie thread, so here's the latest in the long line of attempts to start another succesful one.

HERO
One of the most beautiful films ever made. A visual feast for the eyes. But there's no heart. The script is unfocused, and does not fit the scope of the film. This film is the best looking hollow film I've seen in a long time, maybe ever. Nice score by Tan Dun.

WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT
A masterpiece that is served and works on different levels. Such a brilliant, funny movie, that makes you in awe of these filmmakers. Probably the hardest directing job of all time (yes, more than PJ), and it succeeds on every level it tries. One of the best movies ever.

THE TERMINAL
The first half of this movie is brilliant. Fantastic comedy work. The second half is spotty, and the last 20-25 minutes are quite terrible. But the first half cannot be discounted, some delightful, hillarious stuff there. The movie sports an amazing performance by Tom Hanks, the first time I've ever been convinced by a big actor doign a slavic accent. And the movie is so refreshing in it's treatment of immigrants. It is one of the few that does not see these people as slower or not as bright- they simply don't speak the same language. Hanks' character is a smart man who knows when he's being handled. The movie also sports a terribly written and concieved character with Catherine Zita-Jones, and a good performance by Stanely Tucci that was unfortunately robbed of a resolution. Spielberg should pat himself on the back for the first half, phenominal job, and should hire himself a good producer to prevent the terrible spectacle of the resolution to this movie from ever repeating. Great score by John Williams.

THE PAPER
My second favortie Ron Howard movie, a brilliantly acted ensamble piece. Michael Keaton's best performance, one of Robert Duvall's best, the first place I've liked Glenn Close in. Great, great, great screenplay on this one. Randy Newman provides a fun, sentimental, urban score.

I know we've had one recently, because you started it, and I posted in it: it's here. Why start another when we've got a good one to continue? Why try to improve on perfection?
