OK, now I get it. I thought your problem was with the link to the news story from the first post. OK, I'll go through the second link I provided (to the media player). I hadn't actually followed the download link all the way so I didn't realize it gave you this massive list. I thought it was a simple, click the green box and you get the file. My turn to apologize.
Follow the link.
Click on the green box with "Download guliverkli".
This takes you to a massive list of applications. The first section is just a list of applications, but if you scroll down below that, each application has its own mini-section with some detailed information and additional links. In this lower section scroll down until you see "Media Player Classic" (its a little more than 1/2 way down the page).
Click on the link "mpc2kxp6490.zip"
"mpc" - Media player Classic
"2kxp" - Win2k or WinXP
"6490" - version 6.4.9.0
zip format
The next screen let's you select a mirror close to where you live for a faster download. Find a good location and click the Download link next to it. It may take a few seconds for the download to appear, but that should get you the file.
You don't need to install the file, just unzip the mplayerc.exe file and double-click it. You can set the file associations with View >> Options >> Formats.
I hope it works now. And sorry again.
