| | Lighter Subject To help change the pace here today, I wanted to get some feedback on a much happier topic. My wife and I just found out we are expecting our 2nd child.
I convinced my wife to name our first child Ian. Not knowing the gender of our expected, any suggestions out there for some good names?

| | Glad to hear your news man. it's great to know that life continues in the face of everything. As far as names go, well, just look at my name and you'll see I'm not very good at that...

| | Congratulations to you and your wife, McBane
C Elegans is not a very nice name.
Personally, I've always loved the names "Gwendolyn" and "Lavinia" (Latin, often used in Romania nowadyas) for girls. For boys, I mostly like Russian names, that doesn't fit neither an English nor a Swedish surname
Ian is very nice also, it makes me think of Scotland

| | @McBane - what types of names do you like?
Traditional?
Literary?
Romantic?
Biblical?
Long?
Short?
Do you like long names to be shortened?

| | As an american who wished he was born in England, a nice traditional English name. (hence Ian, although technically Ian is Scottish, isn't it?) My wife likes Steven (she has 3 steven's in her family) for a boy, and Alexis for a girl.
I like Rhys, I have seen it in print, but do not know anyone with that name. I might be able to convince her, but.....it is a tough sell.

| | if it's a boy, name him Knuckles...you can gaurantee him a career as a hitman or a bodyguard.
same thing if you name him Rocco.

| | Good news! I must say, two kids are twice as much fun as one!
Ian, hmmmm? Well, you could always stick with the 'I's. There is precedent. My mother's name is Irma, her sister is Iona, her brother is Ivan, her father was Irel, and her mother was Iris.
I, fortunately, was spared the scourge of the 'I's.
@Ysh: my youngest daughter's middle name is Caitlin!
