Americans, at least, will remember Julia Child. She was the first (and for a long time, the only) of those pioneering TV chefs who sought to lift the US out of its endless caned foods and overcooked beef phase. She wasn't pretty, and she sounded rather hoarse, but she was clear, precise, engaging, and knew her job: less entertainment, more content. Wherever she ends up, may she enjoy a caloric delight without any choesterol worries.

Elmer Bernstein also passed away. Not a fun time.

I've been watching her on TV ever since I was a kid, and as much of a great chef she is she has one of the most annoying and notable voices ever. Also she didn't even know how to cook until WWII. Another tidbit of info surrounding her death. Emeril was gonna have her on his show for her 92 birthday this past sunday(i'm not sure of the exact date), but sadly she didn't make it that far. I also remember in an interview with her, and my dad will be quoting this one until he dies, her response to what her diet consists of was "beef and beefeater." And for those of you non-drinkers out there beefeater is a british gin. Personally I can't stand the stuff, but whatever makes you happy.
