I've heard of tough markers before, but this is ridiculous.

From my computer & IT exams:

Quote:
Q3. The system unit of a computer consists of interface card which is a circuit board able to be added onto the motherboard. Therefore the capabilities of a computer system can be expanded.
Give TWO examples of interface card. (2 marks)
My answer:
Quote:
Graphics card and sound card, the former to display graphics on screen and the latter for inputing/outputing sound to and from the computer.
The teacher ticked my sound card answer, but marked my graphics card answer as wrong. I quote her comment next to the cross, "Exact as VGA card!"

My jaw dropped when I saw it. So I went to my computer teacher a few days ago and asked him to tell the biatch who marked this. Today I got my paper back and he said that the teacher did not accept my answer.

So, at lunchtime I went to her and asked her personally.

She told me of the acceptable answers: VGA card, display card, video card, AGP interface card to VDU (and when I asked her she said that all graphics card are AGP. I didn't bother to argue.). Not graphics card. Apparently, she justed marked the paper according to the syllabus for O-Level. She told me that she might have changed her decision, but since 4 or 5 people in the grade have done the same thing, she won't.

I think that even the most computer inept among us would know that graphics card and display card are generally accepted as interchangable.

What do you think?

Guys at another forum suggested poison.

[whisper]This same teacher also said that the operating system is stored in ROM...[/whisper]

LOLOLOLOL ... that one I has to use someplace
The operative system in ROM .... LOL Sure - I'll fit my 4GB windows installation down into ROM. omg - you just made my day

As for the graphics card vs. display card, I would agree with you, I can't see any logical reason to differ between thoese two terms at all.

Your mistake was to only mention the requiered two

Would have been fun if one had mentioned the Technology Without An Interesting/Important Name (TWAIN) interface card. Now that could likely test the marking

I don't know much about computers. But as for that thing why wont you bring that teacher an aple? At same time you could ask for reconsideration If teacher says no, bite the apple and thow it at teacher. Making any sense?

And there I was, thinking they're both read-only.

Not to mention the multi ROM feature, enabling you to have both linux and windows in the machine.

I say you dont kill her. Just torture. Might be rewarding

I feel your pain, rookie... I think most of us have been victims of moron teachers at some point during our education.
How about the one time my English teacher (in Norway) marked off the sentence "He was walking barefoot", and changed it into "He was walking bare-feeted"... Even after I told her that her correction was wrong she wouldn't believe me. It took a furious mom being pissed off at the incompetence of both my English teacher and other language teachers in general before my teacher even bothered to check it out & see that I was right.
I'm positive the teacher thought that "Of course, a kid can't know what he's talking about, so if I just stay adamant he'll be sure to cave eventually..."

Suckers...

Seriously though, if the test matters & you feel that question could change your grade, don't give up on it. Sometimes a student can do a teacher a great favor by actually pointing out where they're wrong. (of course, you don't say they're wrong. Just say something along the lines of you talking to a web designer or other computer person, and that they said...) A little stroke of his/her ego might work wonders, too...

Now I'm British and don't claim to have a perfect understanding of the English language at the best of times, (terrible spelling) but you would expect that someone who is trained and getting paid to teach my mother tongue would actually be able to write a proper english sentence, send him/her over to me and they'll get a haggis whipping they wont soon forget. There isn't even such a word as feeted!

You're right. This isn't a technical issue: it's a matter of a teacher who appears to have felt challenged, and refuses to backdown after making an error. We all do this. We all have our pride. But in refusing to back down, this teacher is also penalizing you. Is there anyone higher to whom you can appeal the matter?

If it makes you feel any better, I had similar experiences throughout my higher secondary school and university years. One particularly hated English teacher back in high school marked the entire class as wrong on a test question, because the printed test results had the wrong multiple choice letter. Even though the answer on the test results was inaccurate, she refused to acknowledge that fact.

So, I know where you're coming from. If it's any help.
