You mean it was only a matter of time until this news made it to the US? (It was two years ago!!)

The question is, why is it in the "art" section?!?

OMG! I knew it - the French will liberate anything!

It won't pose a problem here since Garden gnomes is not common in Sweden, but my sympathies goes to the English - how would mass releases affect the local ecosystem?

I personally blame myself for not stopping this group when I had the chance.

I must reassemble my Commando squad before this group gains a foothold into the international community of garden gnomes.

I remember reading about this group in French last year sometime. Wish I'd thought to post the links here back then.

There was another case where a guy had his garden gnome 'liberated', and was later sent photos of the gnome from various holiday destinations. Apparently the kidnapper had taken it with him when they travelled overseas and took holiday snaps (complete with the gnome in tropical shirts etc) to send to the owner.

We have stuff like that here in Holland too.

But I think the liberation front is wrong... our garden gnome gets a free home for his efforts. Thats fair isn't it?

In the Netherlands whe have the same group,
and in a videoclip you saw 100ths of gardengnomes falling down,
they gave a lot of comment on that.

A few days ago I heared of the (don't know what's it called in english the white dot in the middle of a football field) liberation front.
They dug out 6dots at football stadiums and let a letter.....

I think you're quoting a sub-plot of the delightful, recent French film, Amelie. The young adult heroine has made the momentous discovery that it feels good to help people. Among those she attempts to assist are her father, a retired physician and a terrible stick-in-the-mud. She steals his garden gnome, and gives it an airline stewardess friend of hers. Her father notices it's missing, and then a few weeks later, receives in the mail a photo of the gnome posing before Ankor Wat. Another week passes, and a picture arrives of the gnome before the Kremlin. It's a matter of small, hilarious punctuation of the main plot--but then, it's also a great film.

That could be it, I didn't pay much attention in French so my memory isn't exactly spot on.

Freeing Garden Gnomes? Why would they want to be freed? Are they being mistreated?

Also, I think any self-respecting garden gnome could free himself if he wanted to.
