Firefox is a browser that is use dhere. I use it myself, every so often, and am still deciding on whether or not I should shut down my protection long enough to download it. Unfortunately, I spend half my time at a university, and they have policies regarding the lowering of portection long enough for it to take effect.

I am at hime today... perhaps I will download it in the future. Although, I may instead just wait for Opera to give sway free codes again.

really? *wanders off to find the magical browser*

Anyways, which is better, DW, Opera or firefox, since your computer handles both? I know there was a thread a while ago... I might have to search for it...

Shhhh... Xandax may notice we are talking about his employers...

I wish people would get literate with computers and download FireFox. It's so much better than IE anyday, anytime.

I'm still trying to decide that actually. I often use Firefox more by default because I also have Spyware Blaster installed, and it is designed to protect IE and Firefox from spyware. (not that Firefox has much to worry about, but I'm paranoid )

However, Opera is pretty secure in and of itself. It is also a bit faster.

But really, they are both great; I'd suggest trying each yourself.

I recommend scanning you system at least once to see if you have any issues also if you running win 2000 or xp crtl alt del and goto performance and see if its at a constant 50% or more then you sure to have viruses or spyware

Oh great. Yet another thread which bases IE/Microsoft... seriouly - it is starting to be more trendy to bash IE/MS then it is to bash the US and Bush

Sure FireFox (and Opera) have strong points compared to IE, and in my case it is mainly the custimizability and the fact that they use the W3C standards whereas IE is more "open" interpretaing it, meaning that it is a pain to develop webcodes which works in them. (Oh, and IE for Mac is so terrible that it is all but impossible to develop for that .... hopefully when Mac goes Intel, they can get decent browsers again).

Anyways ....

Good for you -most every ordinary user will be able to use IE all the time withouth any problems. The problem comes when people navigage the more .... lets call them grey areas of the web (pornographics, piracy, musicdownload and all that), then they expose their machine towards people.
And trust me the browser is the least of your worries if you download stuff of the web, because then you willingly expose your machine to spyware and vira etc.

Sure FireFox is more "safe" then IE, but the main issue for this, is that FireFox is software running on Windows, whereas IE is software running integrated into Windows, this gives benefits and .... well - problems.
However, there is also the "user" factor - most people who change to FireFox are more proficient with computers, thus perhaps they are also more aware of what is floating around the web and thus can protect themselves better.

The only reason I use FireFox (and have so for the last year or so) currently is due to work, if not I'd likely still be using IE, and I'd still be withouth spyware, vira and what not, while being on the web many hours a day .... as I'd done for years before. Yep, that's right - like many I'm going on many years on the Internet and never once had spyware or vira infecting my machine.

The main security risks for vira is and will always be e-mails.
Spyware will be tricking the user to installing some additional toolbars or what not (which is also why I'm staying faaaaar away from Google's toolbars, I don't trust them anymore).

Surf while using your head, then it infact matters little which browser you use.

I don't know anything at all about computers. But I don't go to the grey areas of the web and I don't use e-mail very much at all. Nevertheless when I was using IE something stole my computer. I mean it hijacked my home page. I had to go right back to the factory settings to get rid of it and then a friend installed Firefox for me. I don't know if it is any better but that hasn't happened again and I'm told it's less likely. I lost a lot of stuff when it happened so I really don't want that to happen again
