I'm Fat :(

Hi again guys,
now you may have read another thread of mine titled "Girl Help !!!".
Well, I guess you can say that I'm doing this for Jessica (the girl), but I'm fat... No girl of my age would like a fat person...

anyway I also don't want to be made fun of in high school(JUST TWO MORE YEARS, YAY!) and I was just wondering if there is a good excercise that has ACTUALLY worked on someone.

Right now, my daily excercise is run 20 minutes aday on my dad's treadmill, 33 sit-ups, 33 push-ups, and 50 jumping jax

So right now I weigh 142 pounds, does anyone know the average weight for a twelve year-old?

So here are my questions,
#1 Does anyone have any daily exercise routines?
#2 Do you think my average exercise will cut it?
#3 What's the average weight of a normal 12 year-old?

THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR GREAT INFORMATION!!!

Easy Two Step Exercise To Reduce Weight!

1. Put the utensils down
2. Push yourself away from the table

I'll post a more serious reply after I get some sleep, but for now this is as sound advice as I can give.

As you are in the US. NO MORE COKE. You want something to drink, water is the right choice. If not that a glass of juice. Also no more junk food. Mcdonalds is not lunch. It is something you eat when you get lazy.

Basically limit you food intake. I used to be 220 pounds. Dropped to 170 pounds and gained 20 pounds when i went back home to visit my family for 3 months. Not a good idea. Losing it right now. Around 1 kg a week. That is 2.2 pounds.

I go to the gym regularly once a week (as you can see you dont need to exercise that much ) But my food intake is far more healthy. Basically eat well but properly. No more chips and stuff. Cut out all junk food that includes anything that you munch on.

You hungry but dont want to have a full meal? Fruits are an excellent subsitute. Basically if you eat two big macs. Eat one. If you have 1 big mac have a Mc chiken or something. You get the idea. Limit the quantities not the actual food.

Oh yeah dont go on "no eating diets" or "only fruits" or "only vegis" etc. They dont work. Of course you can try weight watchers.

You are 12 and 142 pounds. That is 65 Kgs. Depending on your height it could be an issue and it couldnt be. If you were 6 feet you would be underweight. If you are less than 5'2" you are overweight.

i haven't been eating any junk food or anything lately, and my last chip was about 3 weeks ago and my last brownie was about 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a coke or anything of that sort (excluding lemonade, my mom makes the best lemonade... I COULD NEVER REFUSE!)for about 3 months now

regularly, i eat honey nut cherios for breakfast, rice and chicken or fish curry for lunch, and rice and chicken or fish curry for dinner. I don't have any mid-night snacks or anything like that. My school lunch tastes like garbage and is like 3/4 grease rather than food so i don't eat till i get home.

It's not really a diet but that's my daily "meal" sceduale

and i dont want anyone to think i'm a girl... I'M A BOY!!! and My height is 5"1' - 5"2'

Stay away from jumping jacks. They can wreck merry hell with the knees. If you want to do aerobics that exercise the body, there are many other, better ones to explore.

Red face Don't pity me; you've got SOMETHING to feel good about, trust me. (Please read)

Look at it this way, DEV (you mind if I call you that for short?), I'm a naturally trim guy, though I don't have much of anything in the line of muscle, especially in the arms! I also burn food when I'm active like a match through a sheet of paper soaked in gasoline!

Anyhoo, walking can do quite a bit for you, especially if you do enough of it in a day (without hurting yourself) and doing such over months. For instance, you might want to try going for walks on actual terrain, like roads and hiking trails, if you can bare it. If your parents (or whoever you may go anywhere with) are cool with it, make them park a bit farther than usual in the parking lot of any building, so that you can get some more walking. When you build up enough walking endurance, you could possibly even walk for hours without getting tired or sore, under the right conditions!

You might also want to consider doing more rigorous activities around the house. Why don't you carry out stuff for your folks? Working hard requires quite a lot of energy, which may burn a lot of what you consume, and something more.

Still, you might want to heed these words the most:
- "No pain, no gain" doesn't mean that you should strain yourself. If you overdo, you're more likely to damage muscles than make them stronger or more enduring. Do enough so that you feel like you've worked your muscles, but not hurting them. Don't go for too long or too hard of a workout.

- The more you practice, the longer you can go with a workout over time. For instance, a 30-minute exercise could stretch into a 2-hour workout after a number of months of repeated 30-minute exercises.

- It takes determination to make something out of a workout routine. Keep to it, and overtime, you'll see results. Don't go for these commercials that promise results from their products in weeks or days; they're money traps. (Sure, at age 12, it may not be as big of a deal, but it's good advice for the future.)

- When you start to see results, the best plan is to discard what close you have that is too big at that point. Don't look back, because you're risking sliding back into old habits and ruining your long-toiled benefits. (My mother proved this advice earlier this year; she's struggled with her weight for years.)

In addition to avoiding junk food, avoid all processed foods. i.e Hamburger Helper, Kraft Mac & Cheese etc. They contain all kinds of unhealthy fats, oils, sugars and unpronounceable additives.

Instead of riding in a car or bus, walk or bike as much as possible. You'd be amazed at the difference frequent and regular walking makes

edit
lol, sorry, I didn't realise Galuf was posting the same thing about walking

Talking How to Become Hercules in Your Spare Time

I concur with fable. Jumping jacks are too stressful on the knee joints.

Some suggestions for you:

1. Eat only when you are hungry. If that means skipping a meal, then fine. People get set on a regular meal schedule and train themselves to sit down and eat whether they are really hungry or not. This is a classic American cultural phenomenon (and the US has the highest incidence of obesity in the world, as far as I know). The human body was not designed for that kind of dietary pattern, IMO. One eats when they are hungry, and only then. If you find you are hungry quite often, try grazing, instead of large portions for meals. Eat nuts for snacks, those help curb hunger pangs.

2. Your weight issue might be due to a variety of things. Only a health professional can determine what the deciding factors might be. In the end though, physical activity is the surest way to shed pounds. Many diets try to sell themselves as exercise-free, but don't buy it. You don't have to worship the gods of the local gym in order to increase your physical activity, however. First, you need to sweat. Secondly, you need to exert yourself to where all you want to do at the end of the day is kick up your feet and relax. I have some suggestions:

Work outdoors. You can start doing this on the weekends. Find some yard work...chop some wood for someone (have someone teach you how to do that safely before you try it, though)...find a construction site and offer to be a lumber gofer. Offer to do that for free, so they won't expect you to carry 2 x 10 lumber that is 12 feet long...after all, you're not tall enough to safely handle something like that yet. And btw, if they offer you a Coke for all your hard work, accept it knowing you've been burning that off and then some.

Sprints and Aerobics. Do windsprints. It's a tried and true method of building cardiovascular endurance. Aerobics is even better for that. And build yourself up gradually with the push-ups and sit-ups. Do you know what abdominal crunches are? Find out, and start doing those, as well.

Martial Arts. I can't recommend the martial arts highly enough to you. You learn much, much more than self-defense...you learn discipline, balance in your life, and finding your center of being so you can handle life's situations much more thoughfully and clearly. Any style is fine, but I would suggest some of the older, traditional styles to you, such as Judo, Okinawan Karate schools, Kung-fu, or Akkido. The form of martial arts I have had training in - Kenpo - is a newer style, but it incorporates elements of the martial arts styles I just mentioned, and possesses the same measure of respect and discipline.

Good luck!

EDIT - Oh, btw...before you do anything strenuous, be sure and stretch thoroughly, for at least 10 minutes.

I agree with most of what has already been posted, some points I'd like to stress though:

1. It's better to eat smaller meals more often that a few big meals, since eating too infrequently can slow down the metabolism in some people. It also makes you prone to eat more than you need when you eat, because of hypoglucemia (too low blood sugar). Smaller meals or reglar snacks like fruit between meals is a good way to keep your blood sugar in balance and your metabolism going.

2. For many people, loosing weight is not only about changing eating and excersing habits, but changing many habits. In the US as well in China, I've been amazed by how little people walk. Look over your everyday "moving pattern" and see if there are some points where you can increase your moving, without really exercising. Can you walk or bike to school instead of taking the bus? Can you walk/bike to visit your friends, to shop or something else you do routinely? If you already walk, can you walk a bit faster, so fast so you can talk but not sing?

the first part is good about no junk food but dont go without junk food for too long just not very often, lemonade isnt gonna do anything bad so may as well keep drinking it

your breakfast is good, lunch is too greasy apparantly and NEVER go without a mealat lunch just make it not so greasy some how. you will only gain weight over time by not eating 3 times a day because it slows your metabolism down so it will make you bigger instead of skinnier so make sure you eat! i dont know how healthy your dinner is because i dont know what fish curry is...

your training schedule...you should get a gym pass at a place in town it should cost like $30 maximum for a 1 year pass and weight train...but dont over do it and hurt yourself at this young of an age!!!!!!i find it works better running outside than a treadmill but its getting kinda cold out there now(at least in upper ontario) pushups are very good at building your muscles(which your going to lose fat from)not many people can do them though. sit ups work well for the gut, if you do them enough for long enough youll get a six-pack and yes jumping jacks hurt the knees(especially having to do 600 of them in a row...just a tip..NEVER STEAL GUM FROM ANYONE AT A CADET CAMP!!!!!) just do push ups, sit ups, work out(if possible), run and do lots of stretches!!(if you dont take a bus to school try and run there unless you live across the street from it...) when doing push ups max yourself out BEFORE every meal to reduce cramps and if you get a cramp fight it off dont stop and do 100 max situps should take 2 minutes max if youre trying to do them fast. weight building...just start with 10-20 bench pressing then go up 5pounds/kgs when you can do 50 of the certain weight. and run for about 30minutes a day inside or outside

YOU WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT BUT IT IS BECAUSE YOUR MAKING MUSCLE AND IT WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT SO DONT FREAK OUT WHEN YOU WEIGH LIKE 180-200...AND TRUST ME GIRLS LIKE MUSCLES OVER SKINNY PEOPLE its just the way the world works

any fruit or vegetable is good to eat, i dont eat them cause i dont like eating healthy stuff i just know a bit about stuff....ok well you dont really have to lift weights, because it will hurt you physically later in life(my step dad got back from surgery yesterday because he was lifting 110 at 13years old and it wreckled his shoulder)well instead of lifting weights uhh...maybe join a sport, like soccer or cross country running...for me cadets kept me physically in shape(only during the summer because i went to a really hard course which was very physically demanding) if there is a cadet program where you live or something similar you should join it maybe...
