Just wanted to say thanks for the sympathy and condolences, they mean a lot to me right now.

Stanolis, I think you're right, it is going to help to adopt another cat eventually; I think we'll wait a couple of months, to get as over this as we can. And yep - adopting from the Humane Society is the way to go, that's where we got Chairman from, and we take some comfort in the fact that even though his life was very short, it was longer than a lot of abandoned cats get to enjoy.

Our neighbor just lost their cat (which we watch half the year)....Her niece wrote the following...

Ode to Montana

Montana, Montana,
With your eyes so green,
Your movements and presence
Spoke of the serene.
What will we do
Without you on the scene?
Curled up in your basket...
We'd look for you there.
Or maybe you'd join us
On your favorite chair.
We'll miss you, we honor you,
Fine feline you were.
And we'll always remember
Your beautiful black fur.

That's what I thought the last time I lost a pet. (He died five months after I lost my other one--I'd had both of them for over ten years--so it was even more heartbreaking.) I was planning to wait a while (at least six months or maybe over a year) before I got another pet, but my boyfriend got a kitten for me just a few weeks later. I still miss my other cats to this day, but I have to say that having a new pet took my mind off a lot of things and brought new joy into my life, so I now think it is better to get a new one sooner rather than later.

To A Friend
Well, I'm another one that can...
My beloved 12-year-old dog (which I had found on my doorstep when he was 2 months old) slept permanently on last Valentine's Day... And I wasn't fond of that day anyway! And the sad thing is he had a tragic end...
Moreover, I had never experienced a death in front of me before... he died in my arms
I planted some flowers on his grave
@#$%&*(!!

(could I post a picture of him here?)

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think it's a problem to post a picture of your friend here.
