Hey man, I hear ya. I'd love some X right about now too. It'd really brighten up my day at work. Heh
Ever try playing P&P on psychotropic chemicals? We played on acid a little while ago but once we started peaking hard we had to migrate outside and enjoy the sun. Our character mentality stuck with us all day though and we played a bit a few hours later when we were coming down. I suggest making new characters if you ever try playing P&P on psychedelic drugs, and you should try out a class or race you've never played. And of course it's necessary to tie the chemicals into the story somewhat too. If you've ever played with psionics, the new 3E Psionics Handbook seems to be tailor-made for the entheogenically inclined.
As for your monk idea, we have a party of monks in our cell and they work extremely well on their own without mages or clerics. Unfortunately my Ninja of the Crescent Moon was just recently slain by a wyvern, and upon resurrection by the church of Pelor a Geas was cast upon him by the clerics and now he's Lawful Good from having been Lawful Neutral. The rest of the party thinks he's nuts and the Crescent Moon is ready to give him the boot. Yeah, monks rock. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was very inspirational for our monk campaign.
