I'm having a project on satanism, and the first thing I did was to check the ever reliable wikipedia.
How very respectful of that person who edited the facts there.
Gah.... That 100kB limit makes that picture mighty hard to read. This is what it is saying:
"Satanism: Get a life, you Emo losers. There is no God, No Satan, just your screwed up fantasies. Get a hobby"

O.o One of the reasons I don't bother with Wiki. People can put anything they want up there. Not that history books are any better.

yeah, Wikipedia is basically useless as a resource for anything simply because anyone can post or change anything. There's no way to tell if anything you get from that site is reliable or not.

Ahh yes, the joys of Wiki. In some of the more boring hours of Study Hall, me and my friend have "gone to war" against wiki. Tired of the crap infomation that random people put in it, we help. We post crap, delete chunks, and always follow with something to the effect, of "This is War Wiki, War any who see this join our cause and screw up Wiki with us". Immature? Yes. Fun? Hell Yes. The random laughing fits thay ensue, are quite fun. Any site that allows random people to post crap, that is meant to give infomation isn't that great. So, I ask all of you.........Will you join the Wiki War????
Just Kidding

I regularly check Wikipedia when I need some info. Most articles about historical facts or figures seem rather accurate, and vandalism is easily spotted if you have even the tiniest bit of knowledge about the subject you're researching. Also, wiki has thousands of pages of information on bands and music genres. And I've yet to mention the incredibly easy to use user interface.
Imo, anyone that vandalizes wikipedia should be forbidden to have internet access.

edit: I'm not sure what exactly the big deal is. You ran into an article that some teen with a pimply face, an awkward high-pitched laugh and no social value decided to edit because he was feeling lonely on a Friday night; it takes exactly five seconds to revert it to an older version.
Additionally, while I know bashing Wikipedia has become the trendy thing to do, here is some evidence its accuracy is on par with Britannica. Of course, you can always go the ultra-cynical route and decry Britannica's accuracy as well in which case I'd give up arguing Quote: |

| It was a jab at whoever vandalized the page, not Fiberfar.

@Fiberfar
Just go to "Edit text" and you can read the original stuff. Pretty good and informative, if a bit rushed.

I personally love wikipedia for several reasons.
1> It's as accurate as anything you'll find if you know how to use it properly.. Especially anything you'll find for free.
2> Everything on there you're free to use for pretty much any non-profit related thing you can think of.
3> Since it is edited in theory by people from all points of view, no one slant will prevail in the long run(other than the point of view of internet users, but as the internet is mainstreamed that becomes less of a subculture).
4> It is evidence that both free market economics and anarchistic or at least libertarian/laissez-faire government work at some level. Something I find amusing since many of the people that use it daily or even edit it will loudly dercy the opposite. (I can fit that into almost any topic)
I also heard about the study that tends to show that it is on par with Britanica.. I think I heard it on NPR(not an unbiased source of info, but I feel that they make some sort of effort).
