How incompetant can a forum host be?

I've got to share this.

I'm Mythrignoc, talking about how my forum is having a problem. I clearly and explicitly state what the problem is and even figure out the cause of the problem, and look at the results.

And it gets even better, I talked with one of the mods online, and I would like to know your opinion of the conversations-

[16:14] Mythrignoc: this is mythrignoc from the support forum and you just closed my thread when the thread was NOT SOLVED
[16:14] Mythrignoc: I'm still having problems
[16:14] κноzдм: which thread
[16:15] Mythrignoc: "Admin CP No Longer Accessible"
[16:15] κноzдм: well notice the message left behind
[16:15] κноzдм: :This problem is now solved, if you need this reopened please PM a staff member.
[16:15] Mythrignoc: yes, and I'm private messaging you
[16:16] Mythrignoc: I need it reopened because it's not solved
[16:16] κноzдм: on the forum it means
[16:16] Mythrignoc: does it make a difference? I just need something fixed and you closed it when nothing was solved
[16:16] κноzдм: it does make a difference

I'm thinking, ok, I know moderators and administrators make a mistake, but umm...how exactly did he even try to help?

It looks from that dialog as though the host was perhaps fielding several conversations at once (*big* mistake, if that's the case), and was seriously behind in their responses. I can see why you would be so frustrated with someone like that.

On a similar note, our Internet provider, Comcast, had an outage last weekend that lasted for 36 hours. Every few hours I would give a call, be given a new target time for getting online, and a complete stonewall as to what was wrong. One "customer service representative" even started abusing the others I'd been speaking with for giving out any information, at all.

It makes you wonder if "customer service" is one of those oxymorons intended to mean "the person who runs interference for us and treats the public like mushrooms."

Well, he deleted a post in there, but right after I state what the cause of the problem is, where I say it has something to do with the other hosted forum site, he posted....

"Problem is now solved, and this thread is locked. If you need it reopened, please PM me."

Certainly sounds like he was sending to you something intended for somebody else, then.

It's pretty fortunate that we managed to fix the problem with the relative lack of help they were offering. They were trying, I know...but the person at the top didn't really seem to know a great deal about his forum system. In the end, my own rather limited HTML knowledge did most of the troubleshooting.
