Help choose the name of CE and Silur's baby! (spam on subject)

That's right! GameBanshee's very own couple, the neural biologist CE and the network wizard Silur (together, they fight crime!) are spawning! We have a wonderful opportunity here that must not be missed--a chance to really make a difference: we can name their child, for them! After all, they're Swedish. What would a country whose leading film director is named Ingmar know about names?

So this is where you come in. Tell us what names they should give to their child, and I'm sure we can convince Buck to give them a teeshirt to sweeten the deal--how, then, will they be able to refuse? So post now!

Personally, I'm favoring Snookums MacTavish. I think a nurse calling out for Dr. Snookums would provide a lift to the mood of everybody within hearing, and anybody named MacTavish will be able to get away with whatever nauseating eating habits they may develop.

Over to you!

Ehrm....how considerate of you Fable! Snookums MacTavish sounds...unusual to say the least, and since we don't know the gender of the child yet (I think we will next week) I appreciate the...unclear genus, or shall we say androgynity of the name.

Well, androgynity is very Swedish, from what I hear. So your child will fit right in. Besides, this would be a virtue if they were blind drunk (say, around the age of 5) and unable to tell one rest room at a bar from the other.

Silur might want to name it after his parent, Sir Roderick Murchison.

I however think you should name it after me. My full name being Dotticus Imbecillus.

I think you should stick with tradition, stick to the Biblical names. Take Genesis for instance. Let's see, 'In the beginning there was Multics.. '

O..kay, what about Kenneth? Or Dennis? Douglas, possibly?

In which case Silur must be quite a bit older and more virile than I thought...

Also, I GM'ed a roleplaying group featuring an insufferable cad of a character named Sir Roderick for over five years.

Maybe "It" should have a Swedish name, like Clas Gøran or Sven Ingvar? If it's a girl I actually like the name Ylva, though it's way to common. Girls in Sweden tend to have far better names than the boys, though. It's the opposite in Norway, where all girls at the moment seem to be named after shrubbery.

I can see a problem already.
"they fight crime!", eh? I somehow believe it's the other way around, still that's only me, I suppose...

Swedish double names are horrible on both girls and boys imo. Of course, they could make it Sven Göran, It would give the boy an advantage when trying to get girls later in life. Might prove disastrous if he chooses a career within football though.

I like Ylva as well. Much better then the male variant Ulf. It would also be rather suitable should the girl inherit C Elegans personality.

Any name that first starts with Darth is always good! Lots of people do that here on Gamebanshee!

I don't know much about the Swedish language or Swedish names, but at least I don't refer to their reproductive process as "spawning". (I'm sure that spawning must be fun for fish and other aquatic life forms, so I don't mean to knock it.)

Anyway, I tried to think of Swedish-sounding names, and the first thing that popped into my head after reading other people's messages was "Kitty Vader". So obviously, I won't be any help.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. Try saying it first in front of a mirror, ten times, taking it slowly. Be sure to monitor your diastolic pressure. At the first signs of weakness, lie down, and breath deeply. With any luck, you should be able to refer to CE and Silur spawning within a matter of weeks. Glad to help.

You're very politically correct for a pescaphobe, you know that, don't you?

I'm moved on from Snookums MacTavish, by the way. I now favor Gustaf VII. That will let the child lay claim to the Swedish throne, if they should choose to do so.

I've also thought the name Hector has an inherint nobility to it.

Or Draven Demonbane. Maybe just Draven.

It's always struck me as odd that we name children before we know them. My given name is Arthur, but I have always shortened my middle name from Griffith to Griff, and used that as my common name.

Arthur isn't me.

Maybe you should give a couple of options in first and middle names so the youngin can vary their name as they grow?

While I am (hopefully) a long way off from ever naming a child, I suppose I would want to name them after something worth living up to.

My personal favourite so far is Multics, but I doubt I'll even get it admitted to any potential list. Kitty Vader comes second, but that's just source bias...

Being king of this bankruptcy is not something I would wish to condemn my spawn to... if on the royal track, Olav is much better.

I can see that some people have a severe lack of understanding regarding the Swedish order of succession. Fable is excused being an American, but Silur should really know better. Shame.

Indeed. They should name it " ", And later when it grows it could add a new letter say once every 5 years. It would make it's name a window into it's history and also provide entertainment later in life, when the name is harder to pronounce.
