I didn't create the contest last time, so I'm going to do it right (while Weasel isn't on site/sight).

The procedure will be:

1. Fill the application form: I will set a condition to apply the contest to avoid members who is quite frankly big headed idiot from applying for the Best Geek of the SYM. Also, I will make nomination form, just in case some members won't think he/she is geek.

2. All candidate should take part a week long debate on whatever subject would be, as long as it's related to computer/computing/internet etc. to appeal general public to support their claim to be the Best Geek.

3. Vote

I will create the application form withing next few days, providing my computer would be still working and I'm not too busy *touch wood*.

@HLD: Could you please update your geekometer test for us? It is essential for the application. Thanks.

If anyone has good idea to implement, please post here.

Heh, that's what voters will decide.

You should easily pass the condition to apply. At least no one needs to raise millions of dollars to be a candidate of this contest...

*Go back to read an article on certain country's presidential election due in 2004*

Heh - and the voters over there need to learn to pucture holes into some cardboard ballots, before complaining to much
Oh well, back to semi-on topic

Naa - I'm not really a geek, so I doubt I will participate because I don't know much about hardware (although I do know what the dipswitch is )

But I remember, there have been Natioan Championships in a kind of "Geek contest" although I didn't find them very geeky. The one I saw a year ago (I think) in Denmark it was divided into some minor competitions with an over-all winner. Some of the competitions were playing some computergames, like UT and StarCraft (although I can play UT, I've never played StarCraft), and changing a plug in card in a computer fastest.
Sheez, how newbe-like do you have to be, to not be able to change a soundcard fast

But good initiative @Minerva- I'll be sure to vote

Thanks, Xandax. You seem to be the only one who's interested in...

Personally I believe this is more exciting than AFL, still what can I do?

Is this a computer geek contest or a geeks in general contest?

Computer geek contest. Not Anime geek contest *look at KidD0106430.21* nor RPG game geek contest *look at Buck*. Otherwise Mr Sleep and Weasel will have to fight for the SYM Geek contest between them.

What did I do ? What did I do ? *Runs off looking for "The Big Book of Geekotomy"*

Seriously, I probably "lay low" for a while. My "mortal body system diagnostic" reports several minor maintenance required

I'd echo xandax - I like the geek contest thing, and the whole debate idea sounds classy, but I'm also into programming and whatnot, while the usual contests tend to concentrate on hardware. which I don't really care about as long as it runs stuff.

but hej, still sounds like a laugh. in a strange sort of way.

You know, the reason it's mostly on the hardware is it's me who creating the contest. I've no idea about programming whatsoever, so I can't even think what to ask.

If someone (who's not much the programming guru but have basic knowledge) come up with the idea, we can do "software geek of the year" or something in the next contest.

Then let's talk about programming us two alone then and let the hardware geeks play with their dipswitches together.... hey, there is nothing obscene about that.
