I just had these downloads recommended to me, basically an open source version of MS Office. For anybody who wants something like Office, it is worth checking out. Amongst its features, one cool thing is that it has a PDF function very similar to Adobe Writer.

Note: this is completely legal freeware by Sun Micro Systems.

For PC: http://www.openoffice.org/
For Mac: http://www.neooffice.org/

Mods, I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the tech forum. I put it here because SYM has more traffic, but clearly, please move it if you'd prefer

it's pretty good for free software, but there are still things in the program that really annoy me. to be fair though, if you're willing to spend some time setting it up and learning how to use it, it works very well. I type up all my Mum's lesson plans for school with it, and now I'm getting the hang of the style system - and stopping it turning the spellcheck back to US English - I spend very little time swearing at the thing.

I've used it, I have it, and tis been a long time. I have the MS office too, because I'm used to it, but I dont hae problems using Open Office.

DW, just to add: Open Office requires java. You need to download an extra java resource that dont come with the latest version. The open office site has the instructions.
