This... Peace on Earth? Not in our subdivision! - CNN.com ...really shows what "Christmas Spirit" is all about!

It's very morally instructive to read a story about what one hide-bound idiot can achieve.

After looking long and hard at the photograph of the wreath - then perusing the brief article - I lost my appetite for breakfast. How utterly absurd.

If Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs, fired all the other members of the homeowners association, is it accurate to say that the homeowners association sent the threatening letter to Lisa Jensen, or is it really just a letter from a single person (Bob Kearns)?
I guess we need to put a ban on the phrase "Peace on earth, goodwill toward men" if it's so offensive to people who support the war in Iraq. What would be a suitable alternative? "War in Iraq, death to Saddam"? That's probably what the family members of U.S. service men and women will be thinking about at Christmastime.
I just read an article about the Limbaugh Doctrine, and it looks like a lot of people will be listening to the message of Rush Limbaugh this holiday season. 13.5 million listeners can't be wrong, can they?

I hope nobody thought I believed Lisa Jensen deserved that epithet?

I personally don't like these types of communities anyway.. Something about enforced self-inflicted conformism really bugs me.
That aside though, I do believe the homeowner's association is correct if the agreement says no divisive symbols. If this made CNN, there's no doubting that it's divisive.
Should she take it down though? Of course not! I like being divisive, and she can probably swing the $1000 if they do make her pay.

I think she can safely ignore any fines... since this has made international news, there will be millions of people willing to help her with the fines - if nothing else to embarrass the hide-bound idiot. I'd send her a dollar, ten if she keeps the sign up all next year.

I'd send her something too probably. I'm willing to bet that the VFW, American Legion, etc. (organizations of veterans, for out international friends) would send her something, as would many churches.
Most likely someone doesn't like her, so they are interpreting the wreath as something it isn't. I don't really like peace signs, since they remind me of hippies -- which I also don't like -- but I can deal with it when it clearly has a legitimate purpose.
I still think that legally the association is correct that she's not allowed to have it though.

| | This link seems to indicate a complete victory for norms of common sense and civilized behavior, which means it's probably funded by some leftwing pinko-terrorist gay, secular conspiracy of Howard Dean clones. Anyway, read it.
One curiosity: nowhere does it mention Kearns, who supposedly fired the homeowner's association. In fact, it implies that it was the association itself that made the decision to fine Trimarco and Jensen.

We're not clones... I mean, they're probably just well-meaning, friendly human beings who like peace symbols. Besides, I always thought xmas spirit was alcohol...

I doubt that Kearns guy even had anything to do with it. I don't think you can fire the association. They probably were getting tons of phone calls and thought quitting would help.
Anyway, that is the ugliest wreath I've ever seen in my life and it's huge too!

In all seriousness, I don't get the whole holiday spirit thing. I do know though, once all the christmas lights are discounted, I am getting a bunch of them and stringing them up all over my appartment for an extra amusement factor when I drink with friends. Flashing lights work wonders at times.

HA!!! That's priceless.. Preferable in mauve, if you could. Mauve is particularly vile.
It's best if you find some that are shaped like.. Oh.. Largemouth bass. That's what I had. Snowmen are nice too. Stick to alchohol though. Anything more... Psychedelic and you'll be running around screaming about the frozen army and their fish-demon mounts.

Seriously though, the last thing I need is for that to be going on. Reality gets altered enough regularly from sleep deprivation for me.
