Dungeons and Dragon Book????

Over 15 years ago before i even played D&D my friend had me read a book based on it that had a story about a group of kids playing and they got dragged into the game.... I tried Quags keep and that isnt the book....All i remember from the book is that one of the kids who got brought into the game was a thief and tried to pick pocket someone pretty early in the book and got killed..... I also remember there being a character that was a beserker or something of the sort and he gets tied up in the end and he goes into a rage and that is all I remember..Anyone that has any clue what book I am talking about i would greatly appreciate any help....Thanks
