So, found this article on the subject.
Thoughts?
Personally, I'd say sue 'em for property damage, but there you go.

| | | yeah, and using certain popular file sharing programs doesn't expose you to the risk of that sort of thing happening anyway...
although PC manufacturers would probably quite like the idea.

I think the concept it totally absurd, violation of copyright laws should give them right to destroy other people's property?
It reminds me of a discussion I had with a colleague the other day, about the old "eye for an eye" moral getting more popular again in Western society, and the reasons for this...well, that's another discussion, but this article seems like an example of just that.

I wouldn't rule it out totaly, but I'd favor somehow making the ultimate 'Doomsday Device', but, unlike the movie- make sure everyone knows and is well aware of it.
However, right now- I am totaly against it. I despise Orrin Hatchet.

Hatch has a lot of power, but he's definitely not a political centrist in the US. I frequently think he floats ideas like these just to grandstand and gain attention. It's patent nonsense; and as a lawyer, he would know that it's completely against US law to engage in the kind of activity he's suggesting.

Orrin Hatch is just looking for attention and trying to get on the good side of the big entertainment companies.

Someone should "silence" that bozo. How long till those fat rich corp and their lawyers gonna take over privacy & freedom in internet ?
Never like RIAA or whatever company which got same operation like RIAA. Some review and info sez they earn money more than the artist earn. Which explains their anxiety on this stuff. Can't provide the link - forget where to place it, IIRC someone post it on a discussion in a forum on the net when RIAA shutdown Audio Galaxy.

Sounds like how they used to cut off the hands of petty theives. But if they made software like that, wouldn't someone just make a program to protect against it?
