| | Does divination work? I knew you'd reply that way... Name your poison: astrology, tarot, runes, geomancy, chicken entrails, tea leaves, you name it. Do you believe it has any validity? If so, how specific can it get?

| | Hey! Give this post topic a try. The room has some nice furniture, there's a stocked fridge, and everybody gets to hear the music they want without having to listen to anybody else's choices.
That's about the most elaborate "bump" I've ever seen.

| | I hope nobody feel offended, but IMPO all of this is crap.
For instance, there are numerous investigations and studies showing that astrology is no better predictor of future events, of an indiviuals personality or background than random guessing.
So, probably I'm not the right person to post in this thread

| | I must admit to being really close to my full Astrological analysis re personality/tendencies etc, well if the human body is made up of 3/4 water and the moon affects the tides etc...(then I am a werewolf!). Though I dislike being that predictable. I do enjoy it though. A bit of fun.
But there must be someone out there with the same reading as me and we will be completely different people. Environment and experience having a big part of it. Maybe it is me being romantic (not!) or perhaps being superstious (somewhat!). I should add, however, that I do not read my daily stars and I do not believe in astrology as a predictor. And as for tealeaves they went out with Typhoo bags! Tarot. No. My sister used to have a set of Tarot cards and I picked them up to admire their artwork. My sister was mortified saying only she should touch them....Hmmm. I only wanted to consider recreating the artwork for my wall.
But if I was to consider it too closely I would see me with a Taurus sun and a Saggitarius/Scorpio rising and my 3.5 year old daughter going on 15.5 with a Saggitarius sun and a Taurus rising and wonder whether as adults we will be great friends or great enemies. (When the rising sign is supposed to be a closer reflection to personality that the sun sign)
Hmmm...

| | @Yshania, thanks.
@Xandax, you're thinking of divination as a fixed quantity: "You are going to take a job tomorrow to Peoria, Illinois." What if it's a window into tendencies and possibilities in the near future?
And no, I am not in the pay of any organization that sells chicken entrails.

| | @Fable when you talk about "divination" are you talking specifically about being able to predict future events, or would you include the use, for example, of tarot to further one's spiritual development? Does this make sense?

| | @Georgi, it wasn't my intention when creating the topic to broaden it beyond divination only, but whythehell not?
Tarot meditation is an excellent example. Do you do that? What do you feel you get from this kind of meditation?

| | @Fable Well, I think the topic is related, it's the same kind of thing as what Yshania said, astrology might be able to tell you what some of your characteristics are, but probably not about specific events etc., IMHO. Same with tarot, I would say. I do have a tarot pack (I forget which one, and I left it at uni), but I haven't had much time to experiment with it as yet. Do you use tarot?

| | Yes, I do, for meditation: it's called The Navigators Tarot for the Mystic Sea, and comes with a book that is chock-full of utter nonsense and factual misstatements. (Like equating the development of the Greek word "panic" with the reactions of the Egyptian pantheon to the death of Osiris--nevermind that the Osirian myth cycle achieved its final form more than two thousand years before the Greek...) But it's also great for meditation, with fantastic images. I recommend it highly.
