Do you eat fast food? (spam lite)

Somewhere in SYM, recently, the subject of fast food came up. (I don't remember where. Remind me to start a poll about memory loss in the elder...what was I talking about?) It seemed a natural to take a poll of our learned members about their eating habits where fast food is concerned, so of course--here 'tis. Feel free to add such comments as are appropriate.

I ended up selecting "occasionally out of necessity" but it depends on how you define fast food

When I feel the need for a ‘grease fix’ I sometimes eat at a small, independently-owned place that serves things like feta cheese and caramelised onions on lamb burgers... along with beer battered onion rings. It's relatively fast, and it's definitely casual fare, but I'm not sure it is on the same level as chains or franchises like McDonald's, Taco Bell etc.

No, I don't think that would count. If you can actually see the ingredients and that doesn't leave you wishing to enter a convent or monastery, then it doesn't count as fast food--sorry.

*sigh* And I was so hopeful!

Does Quizno's Subs count? Though on second thought, I can see those ingredients too. I admit, I am intrigued at the thought of eating something that would actually induce the desire to enter a convent

It's the images that do it. You have to be able to see the stuff that goes into what you're eating. After that...well, you may not need a convent, but that's only if an exorcist is conveniently handy.

Option 3 for me as well. I try to avoid it, for health reasons, as well as preference reasons.

Health works. There are efforts underway to force American fast food joints to post the contents of their culinary efforts on the wrappers, but they're being resisted. Still, it's not like tobacco, with a huge portion of several states' industries invested in it. Few people really feel the need to stand up for fast food. Assuming they can stand up, after having eaten the stuff regularly for several years.

Does Roadrunners count as fast food???

Well - I eat some on occasions, mostly pizzas at some weekends when I'm to bored/tired to cook, then it is easier to pick up the phone and get them to "cook" it .

Rarely eat MacD or BurgerKing - mostly only back when I wrote projects for school.

So opted for "Occasionally, out of necessity", allthough it isn't out of necessity - but boredom/tiredness

Yes, but I prefer for the healthier options such as Subway. I can barely eat at McD's anymore (tasteless) and KFC doesn't count as fast food here. Slow-dawdle food maybe...

However, I do have simply the very best pizza place nearby, the quite aptly named Hell Pizza. And yes, I'm doing my part to keeping them in business

Well-prepared pizzas and subs don't count as fast food. They're not good as a diet, but neither is intrinsically bad for you. The latter in particular is essentially a sandwich. There are fresher ingredients to a sandwich, but it's a long way from deep fat-fried protein substitutes masquerading as hamburger meat.

Do you know where I can obtain more information on this? Thanks!

That a restaraunt have a drive through window is the main requirement in my decision of where to eat, since 90% of my meals are taken in the car from one place to another...food is food, enough hot sauce and it is all the same

This discusses the bill that was up for debate by the Congress before the end of last year. I don't know whether any action has been taken on it.

Neat. Provide us with whatever details you can, assuming you do.
